May 6, 2008 - Moss and a small stream

Moss and a small stream in the Cancer Survivors Park next to Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 5/6/2008.
Yesterday I visited the Cancer Survivors Park to reflect. It is the place I visit when I’m sad. The tragic lose of life in Myanmar, from the cyclone, was the reason for my sadness and reflection … Last night I drove by the Red Cross center and took a couple of photos. Due to the lighting, they were not the photos I chose to share. However, I would like to encourage my readers to contribute to the Red Cross and Red Cresent relief efforts.

July 7, 2007 - Where the rock staircase leads

Rock staircase in Cancer Survivors Park downtown Greenville, SC Earlier this week I posted this photo of a rock staircase at the Cancer Survivor’s Park in downtown Greenville. Several readers asked where the staircase leads … today’s photo shows the tomb like structure to which it leads. I do not know the history behind this structure and I hope a local reader will post a comment with information … Extra photos have been shared showing different perspectives and the path you see after climbing up the staircase. Click on the thumbnails for a larger image.

PS: A loyal reader, Rock, found the following information about the stone building in this photo. Rock said that he “asked a Greenville historian that writes columns for the Greenville News about the building. She said that it wasn’t slave building at all… that all slaves were sold in front of the court house on Main St the first Monday of every month which was considered sales days. She was told, but really not sure, that it was manmade (note the Gothic stone arch) built after Furman came to Greenville to shelter the water source for the university.”

A serene scene at the Cancer Survivors Park in Greenville, SC

I found a serene photo to escape into when I selected this photo from my archives. The scene is of the Cancer Survivor’s Park in downtown Greenville. You may remember this photo taken on the same day.

I am so sad for the parents, families and friends of those students who lost their lives in Monday’s horrid killings at Virginia Tech.
