Major Rudolf Anderson Jr. Memorial

This month marks the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis – a time when the world was close to a massive global nuclear war.   A local, Major Rudolf Anderson was shot down on October 27, 1962.   He and his fellow pilots played a  key role in defusing the situation.   The memorial was reworked to commemorate their service and explain the story of the Cuban missile crisis in a series of storyboards surrounding the display.   A dedication ceremony was held on Saturday October 27.

In a recent walk, in Cleveland Park, I took this photo of a home which overlooks the park. The home is on Woodland Way Circle, a street with beautiful homes and wonderful views. You may remember these previous post; walk through Cleveland Park ~ jogging in Cleveland Park ~ spring blossoms.

Cleveland Park

Enjoying a walk though Cleveland Park in downtown Greenville. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman.

Connie and I took our grandson for a walk through Cleveland Park yesterday and I thought I would share a photo. As you can see the leaves are out and for those who live here you know the pollen is out as well. I shared photos with my daughter and son-in-law and called this the purple season given there are so many plants with purple blooms at present. Greenville goes through a white season, a red season, a pink season, and now a purple season. They overlap and the pollen can be difficult but overall spring is very enjoyable.

Bravo Greenville for including so many wonderful parks in downtown Greenville. The Greenville Department of Parks and Recreation is to be commended. Today’s photo shows playground equipment at Cleveland Park. As an extra I have included a link to this photo showing my grandson and I enjoying the swings at Cleveland Park. Also, I have included a link showing my favorite walking route which takes you through six parks. Note that there are atleast 10 parks/gardens in downtown Greenville.
