Master Gardener Mr. Oliver explains the garden layout to a group on the Urban Farm Tour

Two years ago, the Nicholtown Neighborhood Association was inspired by the need for their senior citizens to have fresh, affordable vegetables, and for their youth to learn how vegetables are grown.   This garden was created in a 2 acre space set aside by the city of Greenville for gardening.  Volunteers from within the community maintain the garden.   During peak gardening times, there may be 25-30 people working there to plant or keep it neatly weeded.

 

The Nicholtown Neighborhood Garden is also notable because it is the only garden in South Carolina that has been nominated for the Communities Take Root contest to add fresh fruit to their garden space.  If you have an extra minute, take time to read their entry, register and cast a vote for them!
