This is a view from the intersection of North Main Street and Academy Street of the reconfiguration of North Main street to include bicycle lanes and on-street parking. The lane striping visible here is temporary until the construction is finished.

Construction continues on Project One at the corner of Main & Washington Streets. The machine works atop a dirt pile, with the First Presbyterian church in the background.

Demolition of the Woolworth building continues. Yesterday, they started demolition of the front facade of the building. Sad to see if go .. at the same time it is exciting to see the preparation for new construction. From a photographic standpoint I find it interesting that the afternoon light is so forgiving that a photo taken directly into the sun still shows blue sky.

For local readers who want to see the Woolworth building one last time .. today may be the day. When I walked past yesterday evening you could see the evening sky though the front windows. I suspect the front of the building will come down today .. or very soon.

A Greenville Daily Photo reader, Laura, recently commented on the possibility of reusing the bricks from the demolition of the Woolworth building .. a few days later I took the photo being shared today to show that yes the brick is being reused .. this should make Laura happy.

The buildings, around the old Woolworth building, have come down. The Woolworth building is next. New construction is planned.

I found this construction scene unique .. I understand the explanation to be that the scaffolding was being taken down. The workers on top would remove a piece and then it would be handed down, one level at a time .. the scene is from the Main @ Broad project.
