no grandson feet? Maybe in a couple of years.
OMG, I LOVE Mayme Baker studio and enjoy so much visiting and seeing all the rich creativity! Thank you MB for sharing and giving yourself to our city.
I love the night shots like this.
Beautiful photo and looks great with the water running so fast.
Hey denton, also right around there and the bb&t building is the Cafe and Then Some. Think you could post a pic of that building? My office used to be above the cafe and i’ve been missing the scene lately.
This is a great photo of the yellow flowers! it did made me smile too! :)
Thank you Denton, you are always so nice to include a link to us! we are truly very grateful, Thank you so much!
wow, oldest jewelers! :)
i kind of like this one ;)
Hi Denton,
You have really captured the city I love so much! If you are ever in need of having any of your photos printed on fabric or hard surfaces like tiles or cutting boards, I work for a digital print company here in Greenville. Keep up the great work!
Beautiful photo Denton.
Fun. Women don’t normally wear kilts though, except long ones… Looks like this is Royal Stewart tartan!
Fantastic shot, the arch the water makes just over the kid is wonderful!
It’s a shame daddy didn’t buy sporrans for his son’s kilts, but a great photo nonetheless
for more info on kilts and their accessories please visit http://www.your-kilt.com
My grandmother used to do business w/”Mr. Lacher.” She also attended “GWC” (Greenville Women’s College, in the 1920’s), which was the precursor to Furman U.
Beautiful Denton. Your night time photos are so rich with color.
Thanks Ann.
Great shot Denton, I love the atmosphere in the photo.
By the way, I think I saw you shooting pictures of the “new” entrance to the Peace Center last week. Check your shots for 4 guys in Maroon shirts on the opposite corner of Main. We were headed back from lunch at Bellicino’s.
Sorry Travis, no photos of you and your friends. Maybe next time.
Pretty picture, I like the colors. I’m not good at taking nightime shots.
I like the sign too, I’m someone that would need the warning reminder. If there is an opportunity of falling while walking, I seem to take it!
looks neat!:) seems like a cool place under these shady trees…
Yep, the evening light is gorgeous!
And I especially love the Gelato Cafe next door :-)
Oh so lovely, and peaceful…
The lighting gives it a look of mystery…who is about to walk into the light and sit and the table, who will they sit with, will it be a mysterious meeting or one of romance…
your photos always have a unique light
I too like their transportation. Wonder if they were in the two hour parking?
Yes, I had the same thought. However I doubt if our parking authority worried very much.
I used to love to attend the Saturday market down by Soby’s. Has the market expanded onto Main street every Saturday, or just becuase of the ‘touch a truck’ event? We are coming down for a visit over the 4th of July, so I was wondering!
The market is now on Main street. Previously it was on East Court. At present the market takes up the block on Main street between Court and McBee as well ad 1/2 of the block between McBee and Washington.
Note that the July 4th draws one of Greenville’s largest crowds. It is great fun for everyone.
I bet you did have fun! I love the pictures. this is such a wonderful event for kids and their parents too. It also gives the youngsters some up front personal time to talk to those who make it all happen. Love the thumbnails. Can’t decide which one I like best.
Hey, Denton! I’m waiting for FE as I write this! They’re supposed to be here by 10. HA!
I know I have been very quiet lately, and I apologize. There’s an explanation on my blog post from yesterday and today if you want to check it out.
I also apologize for this cut-and-paste comment. I just want to let everyone know what’s going on.
This photo makes me think of my son who can’t see a Fedex truck without asking “did you know that there’s an arrow between the ‘e’ and the ‘x’. That fascinates him every time! The magic of marketing!
smiles, Angie S.
When, more than 50 years ago, I was a child my dream was to become a truck (of course a red truck) driver. Such a day must be a great day for all the children attending to it ! great !
robert
You are so right Denton.
You do live in a lovely city as evidenced by your great pictures.
great spot to also watch the world go by :-)
didn’t know about this place – will have to give it a try!
Is Rainbow Drive in on Poinsett Hwy. still in business? They always had the best sliced BBQ sandwich!
No David, it isn’t. It closed this year, after 50 years.
A sad thing it is, after all those years, burgers, fries and shakes.
Rick, thanks for responding. I was going to have to drive by to see before I could respond to David … sad to see an established business leave … but on a more positive note, Pete’s has opened a new hamburger cafe at the corner of East North and Laurens (where the clock driving inn stood for so many years).
Dang! Hate to hear that…. my Dad owned Roper’s Pharmacy on Poinsett, we used to run up there for our supper lots of nights….there was a picture of the pharmacy when it opened hanging in the Rainbow..
it s always interesting to see how other photographers work, their position, the gear they use, how they are wearing…and as in this picture I ask myself what such interesting has he seen ?
robert
if i got down like that i’d never get up again!
I have been Fascinated by the movie “THIRTEEN DAYS” even though I thinks its biased against the Military. Major Anderson must have been a great man. Question though, did the Kennedy administration call Major Anderson on the phone just before he took off for CUBA and request that he “NOT”get shot down? Is this true? Anyone know the answer to this or was that just Hollywood being Hollywood?
PS: One of my parents neighbors house has a bomb shelter in it built back in October of 1962. People still use that Bomb Shelter today but it’s for storage for other things. It’s really something.
I am impressed with his agility . . . guess he just popped right up when he had taken the picture?
yum! another restaurant to try! And I have never been to this one, in any location – tfs!
It’s actually good. I ate there Saturday and it was awesome. The food was very fresh and prepared in a more healthy way. Lots of steamed veggies.
I ate there Friday for lunch. Very good food – had a burrito and quesadilla – and excellent service. Also like the atmosphere.
Sounds great. Where exactly is it located?
Ann they are at 120 N Main Street.
When I interviewed the artist he told me that Interval: Mountain Fall’s two spires represent the mountains, and the curvilinear space between represents water. A cascade or falls, if you wish.
Great! Just discovered your city dailyphoto blog. I missed those Southern scenes. I used to live in SC for 3 years. Also visited and liked very much Charleston, Columbia, Jacksonville FL, St. Augustine FL, Savannah GA and Atlanta GA. Greetings from Cluj, Romania, where I live now.
The simple explanation is that is how the pavement is kept down to a reasonable level!
Sunshine Coast Daily Photo – Australia
Gene’s is a classic meat and three with other southern favorites thrown in too.
It is good … and so is the original STAX on Pointset … a must for breakfast on the
weekends or dinner on the way home.
Love this! Thanks for the smile you gave me today!
Denton!
I discovered your web site about a year ago and am a daily visitor. I feel like I know you and Connie and Norma. I would like to ask the daily photo community to be in pray for my 47 year old brother. He is in Greenville Memorial with liver disease. They told us today they do not give him much hope. He has sixteen year old twin sons and an 18 year old daughter. Thanks and keep the photo coming. They continue to brighten my day.
Terri, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
The cuisine of Guadalajara is a little different from Mexico City. One of its special meals is Pozole and if you have a strong stomach “Tortas Ahogadas”. The place looks great, thanks for sharing!
Silly me; when I first read you comment I though you had eaten at the Guadalajara restaurant in Greenville … when in reality you are sharing a Mexican food experience from the city of Guadalajara.
Borrow a book, like down on that beautiful lawn to read — heaven!
Wonderful! I wish I was there!
Maybe this is where the guy yesterday was headed with the lawnmower. Somehow, I think the Library probably has one of those fancy 0 turn riders.
Good job to you :) I’ve been doing boot camp for the last couple weeks, aww aww aww.
Nice shadows in this one!
It’s not a good idea .. there was sewage in it around this time.
It is the inter-connectedness of these roots that are the potent symbol of your post, Denton. This is how the CDPB community is on this our special Theme Day in support of the people of Iran and especially our fellow blogger who is missing.
I am so glad you posted on this special Theme Day. We want our blogger back. The world is watching.
A magnificent tree, and with the light shining through the leaves — a very powerful and hopeful image in support of our blogger and of Iran!
Great photo and thought for our fellow city daily photo blogger. I wish there was more we could do.
Lets hope we have good news of him soon
Great choice for today. It’s a beautiful photo. Very good that so many of us – CDP bloggers have joined to supporting Iranian people!
Regards,
m_m
Beautiful photograph for today Denton. Have a great Sunday.
Very appropriate photograph. I hope Amir and all others like him will be released unharmed soon.
An amazing tree and a great choice for today – symbolic and strong. Let’s hope our Blogger will be freed soon and that the people of Iran get a vote that is counted.
You have posted a powerful image for this special effort, Denton.
As several have already noted, I think this tree with its huge root system is a great symbol of the interconnectedness of all people. Excellent post!
Denton, this is a wonderful picture. I’m afraid I have been pre occupied this week and was not aware. You have chosen a perfect picture and your commentary is excellent.
Awesome photo Denton with all 3 symbols – interconnected root system, green leaves, the Light of the Sun – in tribute to a fellow human being in need of our support and prayers. God be with him and all others who may be missing because they are standing up for their rights.
I love the symbolism of the roots. Perfect image for todays theme.
Denton, Your comments are sensitive and thoughtful as usual. In addition, I am pleased that so many of us have posted today to call attention to one of our own and generally to support human rights around the globe.
I’m glad to see that so many people have joined in the theme today. I hope it helps in some way. The world is watching Iran.
Thank you everyone for posting … someone close the the family, reports that “A” has been released and is home with his family … good news, very good news.
It has been so hot here for the last week. We went from the 60s to the 90s…per usual for Chicagoland! this looks very refreshing!….and isn’t the CDPB community awesome?
Hallelujah for the good news! Thanks for passing that along, Denton. And thanks for the “cool” picture.
It was an honour to be part of this community today. Thoughtful, poignant post. We are a family tree I feel at the CDP. What affects one affects all.
Such a beautifully restful place, Denton. I’d like to sit here, alone, and take it all in.
It must be so nice to be there under either circumstance, Denton. I do like the dappling of the shade.
I guess everybody was still exhausted after a late, fun evening ;)
Lovely plaza and fountain!
It looks like a nice place to read a book on Saturday morning. Coffee shop nearby?
Great choice . . .though I would like it “full” of music and people on Jazz night.
Great piaza. Think I’d like it both Friday and now
Even empty it is beautiful. I do remember your pictures of the music and one couple dancing, in particular. A great place to go on a Friday evening.
I like the fountain; it adds life to the otherwise empty scene.
Interesting that they have moveable tables and chairs and not permanent benches in the plaza. Great shot for theme day.
Looks like the best time to be there to me! Great theme day post.
I agree with Marley and others; looks like a wonderful quiet place!
Good theme day post.
Sydney – City and Suburbs
Looks like a nice place to sit at a table and watch the world go by
I love sitting around listening to jazz anytime! Must be really buzzy then.
