Happy Theme Day!
My Bangkok Through My Eyes!
You got a Posty: I want to give 15 postcards :)
ooh, i like the shot and the light just emphasizes the color of the building.
good contrast of light and shadow.
Do you know if these sculptures are going to be a permanent feature? They look amazing, but I can only get down there about once a year now. :(
Carrie, yes they are permanent. One of those speaking, at the dedication, pointed out that they will last longer than most of us attending the presentation .. also of interest is that they are intended to be interactive .. in that people may touch them and stroll between them.
My family and I are moving to Greenville in the next month and we’re so excited that the city is so focused on its appearance and promoting itself in such an artistic manner. Keep up the amazing work Greenville. It made our choice of relocation a no-brainer.
Wow! I look forward to seeing it when I am in town for the Fall for Greenville festival.
I pray the weather is beautiful that weekend.
Thank you! It turned out to be the most beautiful morning– and we met some great people! My email address is actually harpistR@gmail.com. The flautist is my mother, Susan Hackett.
It is unfortunate it didn’t take long for someone to vandalize them. Hopefully the spray paint can be removed. They are beautiful.
Whatever reason they’re there for, the banners sure add a bright, cheerful touch of color to the driveway!
Denton, I continue to be impressed with Greenville from your blog. I will absolutely have to spend some time there.
Isn’t that S. Laurens St.? The Davenport building is on Washington.
You are correct. However, this building also has “Davenport” carved into the stone. The red brick building in the middle is the one I’m in reference to. The name is toward the top. I’ll post a link to a photo, showing the sign, in the near future.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on why two buildings bear the name Davenport.
The flags are there because SYNNEX is having their national conference this week and the Vendor Summit took place at the Westin. The vendors and SYNNEX employees will be staying at the Westin until Saturday.
Thanks Russell. I’m sure everyone is enjoying the Westin. The accommodations are great. The SYNNEX employees will also be in for a treat this weekend with Fall for Greenville just steps from the front door of the Westin.
I love this time of year in Greenville!
I agree Carrie. The weather is perfect and everyone is having a good time.
I never knew that! I’ll have to look for the name on my next bike ride. I ride down S. Laurens St. all the time.
Great photo. Thanks for kind comments and please come back anytime. You’re always welcome.
Thanks Ben. I appreciated the opportunity to take a photo during worship services. Something I would never dream of doing without being invited to do so .. The service was beautiful and the refurbished building is a demonstration of Downtown Presbyterian’s commitment to the heart of Greenville.
Thanks Denton, that was a great shot of our worship
Thanks for the great photo. Love how you worked around the tough mixed lighting sources. We would love to have you join us again for worship anytime!
I am praying for the rain and storms to disappear before the predicted appearance…and the sun will be out to shine on the event and everyone taking part.
And I will be there too :-)
Lovely photo and I really enjoy various styles of architecture.
Lovely spot to stop and take a restful break.
Wonderful downtown picture – I love city landscapes
I agree with Blureu – they were out of Pork, and there were only two others eating in the restaurant. My husband and I had the two beef selections. Very tasty but limited choices and overpriced. The Mojito’s were great! I’d skip the restaurant aspect too, and go for the bar & lounge aspect and drink Mojito’s and dance some salsa!
I LOVE the way you did this collage, Denton! Great idea!
Well, I finally made it to Fall for Greenville yesterday afternoon. I especially wanted to hear the Out of Towners on the BB&T stage. Mostly wandered around taking photos but enjoyed hummus and pita bread from Two Chefs; a sweet sauage and pepper panini from Luna Rosa (excellent!); baby back ribs from the Brown Street Club, and just one really cold and satifying beer.
What amazed me was how easy it was to get into downtown and out with this major event going on. That would have never happened back in Chicago!
Looking forward to next year’s festival already.
Like the simplicity of this photo and the artistic touch. I didn’t have that at Two Chefs but LOVE pumpkin cheesecake so will be headed to the Two Chefs Eastside location soon!
God help me, I had two of them. Sorry Marsha but I ate yours.
Denton,
Where is this building? I don’t remember it from when I lived down there…
Thanks!
Carrie the Palmetto Bank is newly contructed at 306 E. North Street across from Christ Chruch. Following are links to previous post which show some details:
The old and new Palmetto Bank buildings
Construction of the Palmetto Bank Plaza
A statue and greenspace at the Palmetto Bank
Statue in Palmetto Banks greenspace
Very pretty sunset colors! I love the reflection on the glass building!
This is a really nice shot at a great time of day for photography. You have managed to make a parking garage look really attractive. That takes talent!
the lighting on these buildings and the angle is perfect. great composition.
Hi Denton & Connie,
I would like to follow your blog, but cannot find the “Followers” gadget. How would I do this?
Thanks,
Regards,
BlossomFlowerGirl.
Hi blossom, given I host my photoblog using WordPress you have to take an extra step to follow us in Blogger. Specifically, on your blogger dashboard click the add button (under blogs I’m following) and then add the following feed address:
http://www.greenvilledailyphoto.com/index.php/feed/atom/
Upside: improved infrastructure. Downside: circuitous routes getting to and from work.
Hi Denton! I’m still on sabbatical but am quickly visiting some of my favorite blogs this morning! We have summer construction that seems to be endless, but you must have some forms of construction or renovation all year long because of more pleasant weather. This looks like serious work!!
Nice composition of the photo. The bicycle fits right in so well with the neon (as you saw, too).
What a great display, Denton! I’d love to know what flags are displayed.
They appear to represent countries that have businesses in the area.
The lights at night on those flags look great, glad someone put some thought behind that!
This is a peaceful view of the old workplace. Makes me miss downtown.
great light + great sky = perfect photo
http://www.johnlwarren.net
John, thanks for the link. I love your work. Especially the play with light.
I wish I could have been there! I love drums and other percussion instruments! My favorite band here is a 10-member band with 8 of them playing percussions. The event looks like so much fun!
Cool! Wish I’d known about it. Could people bring their own drums and drum along?
Marsha, I understand the community drumming festival is an ongoing event held the last Sunday of each month. During the Summer the events are held in Falls Park. During the Winter, starting next month, events move indoors. You can send an email to jeff@drum4work.com to find out detail of where the Winter events will be held.
It is my understanding that everyone is welcome to join in. You can bring your own percussion instrument or dance or use “body percussion” (i.e. clap). While we were there, this last weekend, they had extra percussion instruments for those who did not bring their own.
Wow I don’t recall you linking that many thumbnails to one event :-) sure does look like fun.
I also like drums.
Thank you so much for taking these wonderful pictures of our festival in the park. What started as a way to bring our community together through drum and dance has grown to be more than I could have imagined in a short time. I’m excited to know that so many people are touched by what I love to do for a living. Every day should be a celebration of Life!
That is the Bi-Lo Center. We have concerts, circus, etc there. It is really big inside.
Fascinating puzzle! I hope that you get some answers because I, too, am curious. Beautiful vivid shades of colour!
That is a Beautyberry; there are both American and Asian species cultivated, so it is hard to tell which Callicarpa it may be.
Yep, a beauty berry …. sometimes they are a red color. very pretty. Not sure if the birds eat them or not.
They are somewhat native around here.
Jeff,
While it looks like they have a water issue, what they are really doing is “laying trail”. The water bottles actually contain regular baking flour. They leave marks and symbols written in flour that a large group of runners (hashers) follow shortly thereafter in hopes of catching the “hares” (those laying trail). Feel free to look us up at http://www.upstatehashers.com – and if you come, tell them Grampa sent you – they’ll know who I am (and I’ll likely be there, too).
If you’ll notice, all berry-bearing trees/bushes are heavy laden with fruit this fall. The trees seem to be dropping an abundance of acorns as well. This is usually a sure sign of a fierce winter to come. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if we don’t get some snow before the next season is out! It’s a beautiful way to see how God provides for all the little creatures.
I couldn’t help but notice the human connection in the background as well. What a great parallel.
Leslie, I would love to claim a composition choice. However it was luck on my part .. Most of the time I don’t crop my photos however in this case I cropped to accent the parallel between the scene in the background and the statue .. Connections.
Lovely and sweet photo. Ah, feel the love :-)
Love the clear bright colors in this photo. The rich blue sky makes the earth colors so much lovier.
And I love the wee child in the middle of the grassy area…makes this photo really special.
They appear to have over iindulged in the festivities, Denton. Nice use of reflection here.
A beautiful sleek doorway, Denton and nice that you made Theme Day work with Halloween.
great halloween doorway theme. such angles on these doors and a great reflection
Pretty complicated image with all the reflections, grid and distortion; lots to look at!
- Mitch
It looks as though autumn is in the air up there. I do miss Greenville at this time of the year! Thanks for continuing to bring Greenville to me through photos, Denton!
Very good idea, Denton!
A very modern doorways.
Nice reflections enhancing the feel of space. Not very scary though :) Cheers!
This is such a beautiful picture. It should be used in a Greenville publication of some kind….
Thanks, Denton.
Great Globe Doorway!
Hi Denton,
Thanks for stopping by! Much appreciated.
Spooooky door, great idea! I like it very much!
Stay well!
J
ann has already said exactly what i was going to say!
I do some auditing work for a company the has CoCa-Cola as a client. Usually this involves a monthly trip to make sure new billboard campaigns are put up correctly, well lit, etc. However about a year ago they sent me on a mission to look for “signs” like this painted on old buildings. This was one of the locations I shot. I wonder if they were using my findings to go out and repaint or restore these old signs. When I took the photo the sign was still there but a lot more faded. I think one thing they were doing was making a book or advertisements like this across the country. Looks like they didn’t go for a full repainting but enough to show better in a photo yet still show it was old.
I’ve seen a Great Blue a couple of times this fall at Falls Park, flying and following the path of the river. Beautiful!
i need some brain tonic!
Just ran across your website from a link provided by Brian Habig. I am a member at Downtown Pres but recently moved to Knoxville. Love reminiscing over Greenville through your photos!
Which nation is this sculpture a replica of? There are more than one Native Nation…Thanks!
mshorty, I’ll drop by the sculpture and check the plaque to see it the Native Nation is indicated. I suspect it is Cherokee given the thier history if the Southeastern United States. Check back in a few days and I’ll try to have an answer .. thanks for commenting.
I like just as it is! it puts you right there, no need for enhancement!
One of my favorite destinations when looking for a good meal in Greenville. Thanks for the great image.
I like this one a lot!!
We went to Falls Park on Saturday (to take some photos of our grandson) and enjoyed watching the folks taking family shots as well. I took one candid shot of a couple and their young daughter that I really liked and posted on Flickr at http://flic.kr/p/7esDhB.
Oops. The Flickr short link in my previous comment did not work. The correct link is http://www.flickr.com/photos/rveazey/4090453399/
Wonderful composition, Denton!
Denton, I must say I love your photos. I live in NJ and my husband & I are looking to move south. We were looking into Greenville (although we know nothing about it) but your photos are pulling us to visit this beautiful area. I find myself checking your pics everyday so thanks for the view(s).
Kathy
Thank you Kathy .. I’m pleased you like my photos. You will love Greenville when you visit.
That looks like a beautiful art picture! Love the different colors.
Beautiful shot!
Love this photo such ecltic offerings. I wonder, if you wore that dress would the birds come and settle on it?
It’s a wonderful example of imaginative art, too. Did you buy it?! I posted some photos today of a well-known American writer. Come visit since it’s a one-day stand ’til I return on a permanent basis.
This is really cool. Where does the plumbing part come in? InSouth Lake Tahoe they had this shop with a shirt made of newspaper, not nearly as cool, but still.
So — is that you out on the whitewater? Brr indeed. I went out on a local river a few days ago (in Michigan) and rolled twice… though the air was warm, the water is already icy. No I don’t make a practice of rolling, I just had a couple unfortunate encounters with fallen trees!
Nice ‘watercolor’ effect.
Brr .. no not me in the whitewater .. However I was smiling the whole time I took the photos .. I have rafted whitewater before but never anything as challenging as when the Reedy River was running fast and the kayaker’s were shooting the falls .. stay warm.
I am Ricks grandson i love the artwork he does its great and the work he did under that bridge was awesome . I am proud to be realted to the next picasso.
