The Whistle Stop at American Cafe

The Whistle Stop at American Cafe opened up last fall in Travelers Rest, SC, just up the Swamp Rabbit trail from Greenville. The original restaurant located here was the American Cafe, purchased by Troy Styles back in 1945. The building sat unused since 2009, when the restaurant closed after 64 years. Troys granddaughter, Vickie Hawkins, purchased the building from surviving family and did a complete makeover on it complete with a replica of a vintage steam engine in the parking lot. The restaurant is currently open for lunch Monday – Saturday from 11 am – 3 pm. Dinner hours are planned to start Monday, January 27th and the rooftop dining will follow as the weather warms up. The Caboose Express is an outdoor pickup window that will let trail goers pick up a quick bite that they can take up on the roof to enjoy views of both the Swamp Rabbit Trail and downtown Travelers Rest.

Great photos .. what a wonderful place to stop while walking the Swamp Rabbit trail .. I especially like the idea of roof top dinning with the views. Thank you Crag for sharing this.
