    Because we tentatively plan to take a road trip along the cost in the SE this fall, we’ve been reading and watching Civil War books and videos. That cannon looks absolutely ominous. Lee’s life after the Civil War was not too glorious…

    Hi Kate. When y’all tour the SE please let us know and we will try and schedule a place to meet and visit.

    As for the cannon. My photo prespective makes it look more ominous than a larger view of the park would show.

    The plaque, on the Robert E. Lee memorial says the statue was “Erected in 1935 by the Greenville Chapter and Fort Sumter chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of Greenville South Carolina to mark the route of the Dixie Highway.
