These flowers are from the top branches of a ten foot tall Japanese Dogwood tree. Fortunately the tree is next to a bridge and there is a staircase next to the tree as well. Also, the tree is on Japanese Dogwood Lane in downtown Greenville. It’s almost like the photo asked to taken (smile).

Yesterday was National Walk at Lunch day and Greenville participated. There was a lot of people on the streets, the trails, and in the park. You can see the the tents setup to provide freebies to encourage the walkers .. personally I strolled and took photos. I especially liked the young girl how participated by somersaulting.

Where triples go to die

Where triples go to die. A tribute to Shoeless Joe Jackson's talent as a fielder. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 4/28/2010.
A Google search finds that Shoeless Joe “was a deadly hitter and a fielder whose glove was called the place where triples go to die” .. interestingly I found the explanation at the Field of Dreams Movie Site. I remember the movie and I remember Shoeless Joe’s part in the movie. However, until posting the photo I had not realized the movies tie to Greenville.

The mural can be found in the west side of Greenville in the Pendleton Street area. The artist is Polly Hunt Neal.

I made a mistake in yesterday’s post .. I certainly should have know better however I had Shoeless Joe playing for the wrong team (Denton admits with a red face). So I have to educate myself on the subject .. of course my education method is to look for Shoeless Joe photo opportunities and to read the Shoeless Joe Wikipedia article.

Note that the mural, shown in today’s photo, was signed by Polly Hunt Neal.

Last week I had an opportunity to photograph one of my favorite mural artist. Rick Forest was painting at the Westside Family Grocery. The following links show portions of the murals Rick painted in the meats, poultry, deli, and produce. However the best mural is Westside Family Grocery’s gift back to the community. A collage showing five historic scenes with Greenville’s favorite son, Shoeless Joe in his Boston Red Sox Chicago White Sox uniform.

PS: Rick’s business card says he can be reached at (864) 320-8079

The bar at Nantucket Seafood Restaurant

The bar next to the Nantucket Seafood Restaurant in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 4/25/2010.
Last night we enjoyed eating at the Nantucket Seafood Restaurant, in the new downtown Greenville Courtyard by Marriott. Actually we ate in the bar because the main dining room was full. Notice the windows opening to a courtyard. A sunken courtyard complete with a wall of water and a second fountain. The food and service were very good. I understand the Nantucket is a Rick Erwin’s restaurant.

Last night we ate at Trattoria Giorgio’s restaurant on Main Street. The photo I’m sharing is an old photo taken in 2007. Sorry about my re-post these last few days. Work has absorbed way to much of my day and I need to find some balance. Look for new photos starting tomorrow .. also I would like to mention that the windows at Trattoria Giorgio are even more impressive as seen from the inside.
