Gene’s cafe celebrates 50 years of business. They are an institution in Greenville which the politicians understand. During political campaigns if a politician visits Greenville one of theirs stops is always Gene’s.

didn’t know about this place – will have to give it a try!
Is Rainbow Drive in on Poinsett Hwy. still in business? They always had the best sliced BBQ sandwich!
No David, it isn’t. It closed this year, after 50 years.
A sad thing it is, after all those years, burgers, fries and shakes.
Rick, thanks for responding. I was going to have to drive by to see before I could respond to David … sad to see an established business leave … but on a more positive note, Pete’s has opened a new hamburger cafe at the corner of East North and Laurens (where the clock driving inn stood for so many years).
Dang! Hate to hear that…. my Dad owned Roper’s Pharmacy on Poinsett, we used to run up there for our supper lots of nights….there was a picture of the pharmacy when it opened hanging in the Rainbow..
Gene’s is a classic meat and three with other southern favorites thrown in too.
It is good … and so is the original STAX on Pointset … a must for breakfast on the
weekends or dinner on the way home.
