Greenville held it’s Christmas parade Saturday evening and the streets were crowded with families. I took photos of bands, floats, and of Santa. However, what I found most touching was the number of children on their father’s shoulders … Everyone had a great time.

I’ve lived in Greenville for 20 years and I’m ashamed to say that I have never seen the Christmas parade. I wasn’t able to see it this year, either, as I was participating in it. I was part of the Bikeville.org “bicycle armada”. We had a blast, and hope everyone enjoyed it.
I don’t live in Greenville yet, but went for a daytrip there yesterday. I met up with a friend and one of his grandchilren. We had a great time, topping it off by attending the parade. We found a great spot and enjoyed the people and the parade forgetting about how cold it was.
I had never been there for this event, and so glad I made it this year.
Yes, the bicycle armada was amusing, especially the little ones.
There were many cold, red noses and smiling faces.
My friend,my grandson and myself enjoyed the day and the parade very much.
Yea, I agree that the kids on dads sholders are a nice human touch to what can be a very commercial time. Christmas parades are a fading trend here…too much red tape and many towns (and even cities!) are no longer holding them because no-one is willing to organise them. The risk management and paper work is ridiculous. Such a shame. We’re going out of town to see one this year:)
Denton, what a great shot. I don’t think it would occur to me to take a photo of the people watching the parade. This one makes such a great human connection. The things I learn on CDP blogs.
Galley, I enjoyed the “bicycle armada†as everyone did. Like Rick I was very impressed with the guy on the small bike.
ann in alpharetta, I’m pleased you had a good time. I actually almost missed the parade because we took care of our grandson that night. Feeding time was just when the parade started.
Rick Forest, it is great your grandson was with you. That is definitely the best way to enjoy a Christmas parade.
Lisa, sad that you have to go out of town to enjoy a parade. We, in Greenville, are very fortunate in the number of events which the city sponsors. During Fall and Spring my wife and I normally attend two or three events weekly which the City puts on free of charge.
Jill, thank you. Sharing ideas is one of the pleasures gained from belonging to a community.
what dad didn’t mention is that he really wanted to take his grandson out to watch the parade but since it was his first overnight visit he didn’t want to take him out in the cold. He made up for it the next day by walking Jack all over downtown.
Having broad shoulders really helps! How interesting that you were able to capture this father/child scene.
