Yesterday, as I was walking on Main Street I was surprised when a hawk landed on the bench next to where I was at. I took this photo then a couple stopped and asked if the hawk was my bird … That was when the hawk decided it was time to leave … I have seen this hawk, or one similar, hunting in Falls Park, outside an office window, and in flight. However this is the first I have seen a hawk on Main Street.

what an amazing shot! This is why it’s always a good idea to have your camera with you.
The “outside an office window” and “in flight” thumbnails have the appearance of
a watercolor wash. Is that the “Photoshop” program at work? The result thereof is
wonderful.
Sarah, you are right and I almost always carry my camera. Most of the time I have it ready in and in my hand. In this instance my camera was in it’s case hung over my shoulder. Amazingly the hawk waited while I pulled my camera out. I was able to move around and take photos from different angles.
Rick, yes those two photos were photo shopped. The originals left a lot to be desired. There are links to the original photos here and here.
Really lovely photo. What brings it together, in a special way to me is the building on the right painted burnt red with cream trim and a green overhang…then the dark orange to red and gold autumn colors of the leaves on the left…wonderful. The hawk ads a bit of mystique to me.
Maybe there is something between you and this hawk :-)

the anti-spam word is dramatic!
Ironically the picture doesn’t look all that dramatic but I would have thought the presence of a hawk on main street would be quite dramatic whereas it seems to be a common sight.
I am not sure the anti-spam words are based on a connection to the pictures, but i may be wrong.
However, a hawk, this one or any others is not a common sight on Main St. Gerald, do you see hawks frequently on Main St.?
Gerald, my anti-spam words are generic, positive, adjectives selected randomly. As a result they often can be applied to a photo however there is no tie in reality … Seeing this hawk in our park is very common but a first for me on Main Street.
Ann, it was a very cold day with very few people on Main Street. This may have been why the hawk felt comfortable perching on a bench. Although I also think it is true that the hawk, geese, and other wildlife are losing there fear of humans. However they are still animals so as a result there may be some unpleasant interactions as a result. For example, there was a story in the newspaper recently in which a women reported a hawk attaching her small dog in one of the local parks.
