May 26, 2008 - Freedom Weekend Aloft

Freedom Weekend Aloft near Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 5/26/2008.
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of riding in a hot air balloon competition as part of the Freedom Weekend Aloft festival held near Greenville. I would like to give a special thanks to pilot David Fields and his Droppin-In Ballooning crew for making my first balloon flight a safe and very enjoyable experience … I will share more photos tomorrow of the outstanding views of Greenville which this ride provided … Today’s photo shows Heritage Park in Simpsonville. Here it the map location. I understand David Fields offers ballon rides for a fee year round. For local readers, in the Carolinas and Georgia, if you are interested David’s office number is (706) 210-5452

This is truly a wonderful photo. What a great opportunity for you, not only to experience a hot air balloon ride, but to take great photos from aloft. I am eager to see the others.
I always thought it would be wonderful to take a ride in a hot air balloon. But I even love being at events like this and watching from the ground.
Did Connie join you on this ride? If so how did she like it? “Hi Connie!”

Awesome, awesome photo!

I’m so glad the weather was perfect for the festival this year. It was so cool being able to sit on the back deck and watch the balloons!

I think we were there for a different launch, though.

Perfect, it’s like being on board! I love the quietness of balooning in the still sunny mornings, althoght havn’t participated yet.
Forgive me, life intervenes and I loose track of the plans for my blog as to the map, for instance, and I will look at your map site and your workmanship - thanks for that!

My past comments really referred to the tiny map that appears on your side bar on GreenvilleDP or on any other participants. The tiny map is of only half the world!! But thats cool, it is just a comment, not a real problem at all, the fact that it is making a fine contribution to CDP is what is important, thanks.

Steven Que, thank you. It was great fun and provided many photo opportunities. The sun, haze, and my adrenaline rush all presented some challenge to my photographic skills. I’m glad you like my photo and I hope you visit again in the next few days.

Jim K, more to come however I promise not to boor everyone with too many balloon photos.

Ineke, it was great fun.

ann in alpharetta, Connie said she would rather spend the money on shoes. A very bad choice in my opinion.

Carla, on Wednesday or Thursday I will share photos of people watching from their decks. You should check back to see if you are in one my photos.

Chris Moore, thanks for the link. As your photos show the balloons really did paint the sky.

Olivier, thanks

RestedTraveler, I appreciate your complement. I was very pleased to get to take the ride mainly for the photo opportunities. I’ll have to go back again and take a ride just for the joy of it.

Lavenderlady (Norma), it is worth the price to take a balloon ride the next time you get an opportunity. As you can see bringing a camera is very important.

Leonda, I had a blast.

Julia, the quietness of ballooning is often interrupted by the roar of the burner. However, there were times we could hear people on their decks talking 100’s of feet below … Thanks for your comments about the Daily Photo Map. I have fix the issue you mentioned with the map icon.

Fantastic views! I myself am afraid of heights unfortunately, so photos are as close as I will get to ever experiencing anything like this. You have done a great job capturing the beauty of the scenery as well as the bright, bold colors of the magnificent balloons. Thanks for posting!
