May 19, 2008 - Great food and friendly service at La Cubanita Cafe

Really good food and friendly service at La Cubanita Cafe in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 5/19/2008.
This weekend Connie and I ate at a new resteruant which opened a few days ago. We are pleased to report there is great food and friendly service at La Cubanita Cafe. As the sign says, they serve authentic Cuban cuisine from Miami to Greenville.  The address is at 128 East Broad Street just two blocks off Main Street … The photo I missed was of our main course.  We had steak, with rice, black beans, and sweet plantains.  I was way to involved enjoying my meal to think about taking a photo.  Maybe next time.  Until then following are a few extra photos of the side dishes:

PS: Connie said it was like eating in her Mother’s kitchen. Now that is a complement.

I was there at the same time as the original poster. Amazing food, wonderfuly beautiful people, and something Greenville still needs more of… Ethnic dining places where the owners and proprietors “get it.” This place is like coming into someome’s home. The food is sumptious, in excellent quantity, and very reasonably priced. Get out there and support this new, local gem.

I was there on Saturday. I enjoy eating ethnic foods from around the world. This Cuban cuisine was excellent! Very reasonably priced and down-to-earth owners. This place felt like home, and I cannot say that about a lot of places in Greenville. Greenville is lacking a true authentic Hispanic and European presence and I am thankful that I now have a better food option than your typical overpriced American fare at the “high-end” restaurants in downtown.

Oh man … I’ve been craving authentic Cuban cuisine since I moved up here from Orlando seven years ago … it’s really the only thing that Greenville has been missing on the cuisine front. I’ll definitely check this place out before the week is out! Thanks for the clue-in, Denton!

Justin, great. Tell them you saw their photo on GreenvilleDailyPhoto.

Tanya, the ladies in the photo are three of the four owners. This one of the things which made the experience special was the owners were running the show.

Lorena, we will eat their the next time you are in town.

Dan, I agree, a local gem.

Jeannette, we were there around 2:30 on Saturday. We may have crossed paths.

RestedTraveler, you are welcome. Tell them I said hi.

ann in alpharetta, worth the short walk off Main Street. Also it is across the street from the Wine Café which is also outstanding. Two different dining experiences.

Oh, I love good Cuban food. Did you have platanos?

Re: Living downtown (from my blog). . . . If our downtown were as nice as yours seems, I could see the attraction. However, there really is nothing downtown right now. If the city can start attracting retail and entertainment venues (other than bars), it might be worth it.

Cuban cuisine is delicious. There was a Cuban restaurant in North Greenville about a year and a half ago that was very good but they closed down. I hope this one does much better. It is great to have this type of meal in the Upstate.

Congratulation and good luck. I will surely drop by next time I am in the area. I emailed the info to my son who leaves there and, I can be money on it, he will visit you on his first opportunity.

Today is my second time eating at this wonderfully relaxing eatery. The food is authentic Cuban fare. Of course the sandwich is wonderful but try whatever the special is. These ladies know how to cook and know how to make you feel at home. With their reasonably priced menu items do yourself a favor and treat your tastebuds to this unique Cuban Restarant!

Hi Mom!!

I’m extremely excited for you and you business partners, taking a leap of faith there in Greenville! Congratulations on the up-coming opening, I just wish I could make it. I really miss you home cooking, good Cuban cuisine is really hard to find here in the Pacific Northwest I’m very envious of local inhabitants of Greenville, he he.

I can remember when I was a boy when Mom cooked us up a batch of Langosta A La Costa Brava (Lobster A La Brave Coast), Wow!!! I can’t say enough about the La Cubanita’s dishes and the warmth of the people who own, cook and service their patrons.

Buena Suertes a todos! /
Good luck to you all!

Love Your Son,

Nelson Soler

Hey Mom!

After all these years of awesome home cooking, I’m so proud you finally opened your own restaurant. Miami’s loss is Greenville’s gain. I wish you and your partners best of luck,

Love,

This is the REAL deal! If you’ve never had Cuban food you are in for a treat. If you have, then you’ll think you are in Little Havana in Miami.

Thank you SO much for posting info about this new restaurant. I recently moved here from South Florida and have been missing cuban food too much! Thank you, I will be visiting them very shortly!

Buenos dias, my daughter just told me that we now have a Cuban restaurant here in Greenville…I’m so excited. I grew up in Florida and lived in Miami for 2 years and had lots of amigos cubanos and ate lots of comida cubana. (cuban food) It is, by far, my favorite. I miss going out to eat cuban food even though I know how to cook it myself. I have a big pot of frijoles negros cooking right now. :) My daughter and I plan on having lunch there within the next week or so. Any chance that you might be putting a menu online ? Hope to see you soon. Hasta entonces.

My daughter and I made it in today for lunch. OH BOY ! the food was wonderful and very authentic. My daughter had the cuban sandwich and I had the Tuesday special of frijoles negros, picadillo, white rice and tostones. Everything was delicious. We will be back. :)
