Sticky Fingers was packed on Sunday after Artisphere ended. It seems that all those who enjoyed downtown Greenville were not ready to go home. Main Street was crowed, the weather was perfect, and everyone was smiling after a long weekend.

I took this photo Friday at the very start of Artisphere. Appropriately, the photo shows the start of a sidewalk mural by Hani Shihada being created on River Walk during Artisphere … Local readers should be sure and visit the Artisphere festival this weekend in downtown Greenville.

I took this photo yesterday evening as I past by a bridal photo shoot in downtown Greenville. I chose to share the photo because I think it turned out very good. Especially given I was carrying a pizza box in my left hand and snapped the photo one handed as I walked past … I wish the bride all the best with her upcoming wedding and thank her for the wonderful smile she shared with us.

I took this photo, of the Landmark building, yesterday while on a walk at lunch. Photos of the Landmark building have been shared here before however I don’t think I have shared one from this angle. Actually it was the sun, glinting off the windows, which I was attempting to capture … Past photos of the Landmark building included Nuvox Communication sign with the Landmark buildingFlags in night breezeObelisk … And in the distance on a foggy night.

Staff of Life – as seen through a second floor window

A message, inside a window, in an old building in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 4/15/2008.
One of the benefits of photography is the frequent discovery of something interesting in a scene which has become common … I have walked past this building, in Greenville’s History West End, many times. Then, when trying to capture the evening light and texture of the building, I noticed there is a message on the wall inside the building. You can see only a few characters at a time though the second story window with a torn plastic cover. I have convinced myself the message says “Staff of Life” … I wonder; was this a church, a hippy commune, an artist studio, or something completely different and just part of an advertisement … See if you can make it out from the extra images I have shared.

PS: I think Abraham Lincoln may have the answer: Abe said “Could it possibly have been a bakery? Bread being the staff of life”. A Google search turns up numerious references to the phrase “staff of life” in reference to bread.
