April 29, 2008 - A tribute to Robert E Lee stands in downtown Greenville

A tribute to Robert E Lee stands in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 4/29/2008.
This tribute to Robert E Lee stands in downtown Greenville. The plaque says the statue was “Erected in 1935 by the Greenville Chapter and Fort Sumter chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy of Greenville South Carolina to mark the route of the Dixie Highway“. Some of you may remember my previous post showning the Confederate memorial from a distance.

I like the way you photographed this. That sky is an amazing blue!

This is a cool angle and a nice shot.

I thought the Confederate monument was a memorial to all confederate soldiers, not just Lee.? I know there is a plaque for the Dixie Highway that honors General Lee, but the monument itself I believe is just a memorial to the confederate soldier. It used to stand in the middle of Main Street, near the present day Hyatt Hotel too.

Tanya, thanks.

Professor, thank you.

Jason, I will go back and read the rest of the plaque at the monument. I suspect you are completely correct in that the monument is a memorial to all confederate soldiers.

Fantabulous shot, Denton. Like everyone else, I reckon that it is to all Confederate soldiers. He’s a very photogenic bloke. I was just down there about two weeks ago snapping shots of the monument. :)
