As shown in today’s photo, Greenville is in what I think of as the purple season. Spring comes in color stages. The stages so far have included red (as seen in berries ), white (bradford pears, apple trees, cherry trees), pink (peach trees and second stage of the cherry trees), yellow ( forsythias and Chinese Witch-Hazel) , and now purple.

Oddly though that tree is called a redbud. I’ve always thought they should be called magenta buds.
Is that tree truly called a redbud? I have been wanting one for years and never knew what it was called.
Lauren
Lauren, here is a wikipedia article about the redbud.
It is a beautiful season…Spring’s Rainbow. Thank you for sharing
How fortunate you are to be surrounded by so much colour so early in the season. Or, is this routine?
Oh so pretty!
Eric, I agree. Magenta buds would be a good name.
Ann, yes a rainbow is a good description.
Kate, I have to remind myself of how fortunate I am each day as I take an allergy pill to fight the effects of the pollen. And yes this early display of colors is very normal for us.
Professor, thanks.
I saw these trees growing wild in the mountains yesterday as I traveled from South Carolina to Kentucky. I have been trying to find out what they are called. I am glad to know they are redbuds. Thanks
Lovely riverwalk. Selma, Ala., hopes to have one some day.
I’ve also heard someone say these were called pink almond trees. Not sure.
I think that this tree is called a Jacaranda tree as I saw them in Athens and Kalamata in Greece.
