April 1, 2008 - Theme day - water crossing over the low water dam

Water as it passes over the low water dam in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 4/1/2008.
Today is theme day in the City Daily Photo community and the subject is water … I found myself last night without a photo however a walk along the Reedy River offered several opportunities for a photo such as the low water dam also known as the Swamp Rabbit Bridge. I was pleased with how the photo turned out. Especially given that the photo was taken hand held … Click on the following links to visit cities around the world who are participating in the theme.

This last minute find for your theme day photo is splendid, Denton. As are all of your other recent posts, the skill, the variety of subjects. Thanks.

How fabulous. Love the movement and the colours - matching today’s spam word requirement.

Denton, how did you get the cities to appear, each on a separate line? I cut and pasted from the given html but mine, as do others, just follow on from each other.

Nice slow shutter image. It’s very effective to show the movement of eater.
I naturally thought you used your tripod, but I’m really surprised you did this with hand-held. How slow was the shutter? Very impressive.

Love the fast flowing effect. Really nice when you can capture the movement in a still photo.

Wow, great-looking smooth flow for a handheld shot…

Happy theme day!

It’s an amazing picture. In the back front, water looks like pieces of fabric.
Thank you for your visit in Marseille and your kind comment.

Wonderful shot! And, a man after my own heart. . .hand held! I think it’s great!

PS RE: Clooney. . .Sorry you missed the press conference. I do like him as he doesn’t seem to take all this celebrity crap too seriously. My husband used to work with his father in Cincy and says Nick is a nice guy, too.

LOL Denton. I was caught in the same position as you! I completely forgot to go take a water photo too! :o)

I love your photo. It has such movement to it.

BTW, I had planned to post a second photo but changed my mind. I decided to add it after reading your comment ;-)

Thanks for visiting and for all you comments. Theme day was enjoyable.

Jilly, I got the cities to appear in a list by editing the HTML code provided on the portal. I’ll send you an email explaining the steps.

Ben, the exposure time was 1/2 of a second. Although the camera was handheld I was setting on a rock and had the camera resting on my knees.

Pipermom, thanks for the two wows. You made my day.

Zsolt, click here to see a previously posted photo of the low water dam in Greenville.
