March 9, 2008 - Red - a rose bud in Falls Park

A close-up of a rose bud in Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 3/9/2008.
As a follow-up to Saturday’s post showing a rainbow peace flag waving in downtown Greenville, I will share some of the colors of the rainbow over the next few days. Today I share a close-up of a bud from a rose bush in Falls Park. I took the photo a few days ago so you can see Spring is rapidly approaching.

I enjoy your photos,. they are of special interest to me because my daughter and her family will be moving to your beautiful city at the end of the month. Her realtor from Greenville sent pictures of the house they are interested in. He took them yesterday. My question is, how can a rose be budding when the grass and trees are still brown and bare?In Nebraska, it greens up first, then we get the flowers.

Jacki, most of the grass in and around Greenville stays green all year long. Only yards which have Bermuda grass true brown. Most yards are planted with Kentucky Blue grass or Fescue. We often have flowers blooming year round as well … You can see from the photo today that the rose bud was damaged from recent cold snaps. The brown spots are damage from the cold. Pansies are the flowers which seem to do best in cold weather. Check out the photo of fire and ice which I posted on January 4th … Greenville has cold weather and freezes however they don’t last long and overall our Winters are mild. Our Summer’s have a couple of months which are hot. That leaves 6-9 months of perfect weather … I’m sure your daughter and her family will enjoy Greenville as you will when you come to visit.
