I took this photo in Falls Park, about a week ago, as well as a photo of the hawk in flight with it’s catch in it’s talons. The in flight photo was blurred so I used PhotoShop on it … If this photo where used in a presentation as a metaphor what metaphor would you suggest.
The idea of using images, as metophers, seems like a powerful presentation tool. I heard of this concept from Dr. Kathy Kegley who will be presenting, at a creativity conference, on the subject of visual metaphors in nature.
PS: Following are a couple of extra photos of a hawk near Falls Park
- November 9, 2006 – Hawk in flight outside an office window
- November 10, 2006 – Hawk on an office window ledge
PPS: City Daily Photo bloggers please read this request: Collaboration, your photos at an international conference.

I’ve seen herons in the Reedy River on several occasions. Great Blue Herons, I believe.
I am so glad you got this hawk in a great picture! I’ve told my husband several times that I have seen one in Falls Park, but every time he comes with me, no dice!
Ah, metaphors. If you use them, understand them, and appreciate them, you have a better understanding of life. I’m in total agreement re. their importance and images are a useful way to create them. This alert sentry is very beautiful.
Good catch! Pun intended. BTW, that’s not the holiday hawk is it? ;)
“This is my lunch – back off”. That’s what I think he is saying!
To me, this speaks ATTENTION.
Amazing! What an opportunity to see the hawk in action. (So glad it’s a squirrel — those pests!)
I saw one of these a few weeks ago in the N Main area of Greenville, only it was larger and had no white. Unfortunately it didn’t have a squirrel in its talons, it had my neighbors little dog which obviously did not survive the ordeal. I wonder if they are coming in town more because of the drought?
Galley, I was lucky to have taken a photo of a Blue Heron in flight on the Reedy River.
ann, I have taken a couple of other photos of the hawks in Falls Park. I’ll include those as a PS: on the original post.
Kate, I suspect your ability to see a metaphor is as good as a hawk’s ability to see a squirrel … hay metaphors are fun.
linkerjpatrick,I Googled Holiday Hawk and got a chuckle from the video.
Leonda, yes I think the hawk was very protective.
Annie, yes he was very attentive of every move I made.
Lessie, I have always understood nature to balance itself as long as man stays out of the equation.
Chris, so sad to hear of a pet taken by a hawk. Hopefully we will get enough moisture to end the drought soon.
Since there is another “ann” with a different link I changed how my name is shown.
Wow! an amazing photo.
Awesome photo!! I love birds of prey, but I also have a special love for squirrels. But the cycle of life most go on. :)
Great photo!
Awesome…!
You have an hawk’s eye and an amazing visualization.
