It was very cold in Greenville yesterday so instead of going for a walk looking for a photo opportunity I went looking for a cup of hot chocolate. Then I turned that into a photo opportunity.

Why would you go to Starbucks when Coffee Underground is right up the street and so much better. Support local businesses.
Other than that, I love this picture.

Hot chocolate good! Coffee bad! Photo good!

Sarah, Denton and Connie do go to Coffee Underground. I suppose like me they like a change sometimes. And, the staff who work at Starbucks are residents of Greenville and I would guess they like being supported so they can get paid :-)
The thoughts of hot chocolate sure sounds good right now.

Sarah, we regularly frequent Coffee Underground as we do many other local businesses and I like the idea of supporting local business. Having said that Starbucks get’s a fair share of my expenditures as well.
Zsolt, I understand the white chocolate is richer but very tasty.
Galley, I gave up coffee several years ago and replaced that vice with hot chocolate.
Ann, you are right.

I like the ‘every day living’ feel to this shot. Warm feeling, on top of the hot chocolate story!
And thanks for your kind comments Denton. Now it’s a shame my photo hosting service has decided to take a few days off. Oy!

Which Starbucks is this? And does anyone remember when there was briefly a second Coffee Underground beside the Westin Poinsett? I realize now it is Joel’s Java. Can anyone give the history of the failed or aborted attempt to open a second Coffee Underground there?
Denton said,
Bryan, this photo was taken at the Starbucks at RiverPlace.
I’ll ask the owner of Coffee Underground about the history of the “second Coffee Underground”. I try to post a response in a week or so.
Bryan said,
Denton, thank you for replying. I was wondering because of the earlier comments about patronizing local businesses (an idea I definitely agree with). To me the RiverPlace Starbucks is a local business. Just because it is a chain doesn’t mean it is not also a local business. Thank you for checking into the second Coffee Underground beside the Poinsett Hotel. I will be very interested in any information you discover.
Bryan said,
That Westin Poinsett location of Coffee Underground must have been quite brief, as I failed to find any mention of it in Google. However, there is a record of it on the following web site. You will see it includes a listing for:
Coffee Underground
One East Coffee Street
Greenville, SC 29601 (864) 298-0494
Coffee Underground at the Poinsett
120 S. Main St.
Greenville, SC (864) 232-5600
See http://www.restaurants.cgreenville.com/restaurantsA-G.htm
I hope you can find out some interesting history of this and post it here!
