January 13, 2008 - A Grand Master’s name carved in stone

A Grand Master’s name carved in stone on the Liberty building in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyphoto.com on 1/13/2008.
Today’s photo is another is my study on how to photograph a crane. In the foreground is a Grand Master’s name carved in stone on the Liberty building. Personally I found the concurrent theme of construction, both in the foreground and the background, to be interesting. Also, I envious of an accomplishment which last as long as a building.

Love the carving. You’ve like Monte Carlo, Denton - cranes everywhere - building never stops. Sadly, sometimes knocking down beautiful old villas to put up modern ones.

I find it very freeing to realize that NOTHING lasts forever, and many things don’t last that long at all. So many things that are built by those cranes will barely outlast us. Something about that comforts me, though, as if to say, no matter how much we screw up this poor planet, our mark will be swept away one day.
