While strolling in downtown I took this photo of a beer truck restocking one of the local bars. I’m not that knowledgeable on beer so it was news to me that Yuengling is the oldest brewery in America. The sign says since 1829. I wonder how old some of the breweries are in other parts of the world? Maybe some of the City Daily Photo blog community members will comment with information from where they live.
PS: I Googled the subject of oldest breweries and found Andrew’s Virtual Brewery which list information about beer around the world.

As I know in Europe they have started to make beer from the Vth century, in the early middle ages. In Hungary I guess they started some later since we arrived to this territory in 896 only:)
hello denton, hi connie!
Love the shot. and denton, thank you so much for your reply on the forum.
xx always
I’ve never heard of Yuengling. Their graphic illustration for advertising is very different from what I associate with beer advertising (images of attractive men and women, you know :) )
I wrestled in College (Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC) with many team mates that hailed from PA. They were very proud of Yuengling, and the fact that the brewery is from their home state.
I LOVE greenvilledailyphoto.com and frequent the site every day to see what you have added.
Keep up the good work!
Chris said cheers to Yuengling – his new beer of choice.
I am not much into beer myself, Denton, but I think it will be interesting to see what other responses you get. And I like the illustration of the dogs!
Is the illustration supposed to be a parody (is that the correct word in this instance?) of the dogs playing poker paintings? Interesting name, I didn’t associate it with being of Germanic origin until I read the Wiki entry mentioning the original spelling.
Zsolt, I wonder what the oldest brewery is in Hungary? I Googled the question and found Andrew’s Virtual Brewery which claims “the first commercial brewery in Hungary was established in Buda in 1845 by Peter Schmidt”. His site list similar information for several countries.
Edwin, it is good to hear from you and I look forward to your photos from Kuala Lumpur. I’m pleased you are re-joining the daily photo community starting in January.
Gwen, I had every heard of them before either. However, I would have more likely heard of a specific wine rather than a beer.
Brent, thanks for your frequent visits. We are pleased to share our view of downtown Greenville.
Lorena, I’ll have to drink one with Chris this Christmas. See you soon.
Wayne, you may find the link above about Andrew’s Virtual Brewery interesting as well.
z, I had the same thought about the advertising looking very similar to the dogs playing poker painting … Your use of the word parody sounds correct to me.
Andrew has a fantastic website
