While enjoying a meal at Coffee Underground I found the shadows and light interesting. The sun was streaming in from a window on the left. By contrast most of the background was dark. The lady was taking advantage of the light to read her newspaper … Even though most of my news is obtained from the Internet I also enjoy reading a newspaper on the weekends.
December 10, 2007 - Playing with shadows and light

What a great shot! Did she know you were taking it?
I tend to look at light and shadows a lot. Sometimes just the shadows on the wall will present a great, graphic photo opportunity, no?
BTW. . .re: the leaves from yesterday. Most of ours are gone from the trees, too, although the Bradfords still have a few orange leaves left. My how a few days have changed to look of this city!

I hope you’ll make a copy of this wonderful photo to give to this lady next time you see her. She’ll likely be very grateful.

That is a wonderful shot! I am a huge fan of these shots, capturing the natural highlights and deep shadows coming through the windows of small cafés and shops in downtown. It is so charming, warm, and inviting. Great job Denton!

Oh, by the way, the lady reminds me of my youngest sister. She is also a big fan of the many downtown coffee shops.

Justin, it the lady in the photo was your sister please tell her thank you.
Bergson, thank you. I often try to take photos in that same setting. The light presents some unique opportunities.
