Suzanne Vitti, invited me into her studio recently and I very much enjoyed the conversation. When I mentioned to my wife that Suzanne said she did a lot of “back splash” tiles Connie got all excited and has started dropping Christmas hints to me … Local readers can see Suzanne’s work and visit with her in her Studio at Art Crossing next to River Place. Following are a few extra photos. Click on thumbnails to see larger images. I especially like the third thumbnail which includes a colorful box made by Suzanne’s Grandfather.

You have just given that artist wonderful exposure on your website! Can you define what kind of tiles are those that interest your wife? Thanks!

I am so glad you are featuring some of the local artists here. I will have to stop in and meet more of them when next I am in town.
Added note Denton…I guess I am a little slow on the uptake sometimes :-) but I finally realized that all those whose names are linked to website are ONLY for Daily Photo blogs. So I took my link out since mine is not a photo blog. Sorry about that.

There’s something so satisfying about playing with clay. It would be even more satisfying if the results were as pleasing as Ms. Vitti’s or her grandfather’s.

I have been into Suzanne’s studio, she gave me and my kids a demonstration and some clay and tools to bring home - she said she always has extra clay and can’t fire her kiln till it’s totally full.
My kids were so excited and went right home and created their small masterpieces and brought them back to her store- she fired the pieces and glazed them too! and she didn’t charge us a dime! can you believe that! I love Greenville! and all it’s wonderful people!!!
Thanks again Suzanne!

It’s easy to see why Connie is dropping hints, Denton. What quality artistic output you’ve photographed! I really like your local artists’ series.

Kate, I hope the exposure helps introduce her to a lot of prospective clients … My wife is interested in tiles to be placed behind our kitchen sink. Past that I have learned the best way to buy a present for a woman is to take her with you when you shop.

Annie, ever since seeing Demi Moore (staring in Ghost) working with a potting wheel I have thought it would be fun to give it a try.
Sam, I agree. I found Suzanne to be a very special person as well as a very talented artist.
Lynette, thank you. And I hope to expand the local artist series in months to come.
