December 1, 2007 - Theme day - bridges - The Swamp Rabbit Railroad

The Swamp Rabbit Railroad crossing over the Reedy River in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 12/1/2007.
Today we share a nighttime view of the foot bridge which crosses the low water dam in downtown Greenville. A plaque, next to the bridge, reads “For 100 years the ‘Swamp Rabbit’ railroad crossed the Reedy River at this site. The train trestle was demolished in 1990. Leaving the old concrete piers which now form an integral part of this dam … It [the railroad] was nicknamed ‘Swamp Rabbit’ by local Greenvillians who often rode it on picnic excursions to northern Greenville County”

I just imagine walking over the bridge and looking down - the piers certainly add some excitement to the water flow.

Your shots at night always are so nice! So difficult however…

I like it! Especially the water flowing down.

I can just hear the sound of water flowing.

Happy Theme Day!

Very nice photograph and the narrative is interesting. I like the names used too. My blog has 16 ghosts on the bridge some say.

This would make a neat walk, and I love the pink lights on the building in the background.

You have given us really interesting photos, lots of ‘perspectives’ well, I know what I mean! Those blue blooms at Drakes are all round our town just now, outdoors, a nice touch while it lasts.Gorgeous is the anti-spam word - rigged??!!

It’s very nice, Denton. Slow shutter gives you a nice movement of water as well as this light show!

As the anti-spam word: very artistic shot, Denton! And I love the name of the railroad ;-)

If that were here in Little Rock they’d call it the “Dam Little Bridge” to go along with our Big Dam Bridge.

the anti spam word for this comment is ‘unique’, which just about sums this up! The idea of doing this at night, with the flowing water in front is great, really amazing atmosphere in this shot.
