October 18, 2007 - The Liberty Bridge at sunrise on my walk to work

The Liberty Bridge at sunrise on my walk to work in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 10/17/2007. Yesterday, I took this photo of the Liberty Bridge which I an including as part of my walk to work series. As idyllic as this appears it actually involved some effort to take the photo. When I walk to work I carry my laptop and my camera. In addition, on this morning I had stopped by Starbucks (sorry Dana from Coffee Underground). So to take the photo involved a juggling act.

PS: Several commenters asked so I thought I should mention that the Liberty Bridge is a curved pedestrian suspension bridge. For more information visit the Falls Park about page. Also, click here to see a previous post of mine showing the Liberty Bridge on a bright sunny Winter day.

What a nice shot. I thought it was a suspension bridge on the portal but I see it isn’t. Nice colors though.

What a peaceful time of morning. Great photo Denton especially considering what you had to go through to get it.
Abraham Lincoln, actually from my understanding Liberty Bridge is a suspension bridge.

Naturally beautiful art vs. man-made beautiful art… Nay, perhaps naturally beautiful art complimented by man-made beautiful art. Rather than being in competition, they blend together in this harmonious composition. The colors are indeed superb! The subject is typically one of my favorites and you have produced another charming masterpiece with this capture. Excellent work, especially considering the extra challenge you had to overcome before obtaining a shot of such quality.

I think it was well worth the juggle! Great color.

If I had this scene to face on the walk to work, I may be induced to get up early enough to see it every day. For your beautiful picture, you have been tagged. Please visit my blog(Durban Daily Photo) to see what that means.

I agree with Abraham - i thought it was a suspension bridge when i first saw it. Like how it is captured in the sunset.

You done good, Denton! Keep on jugglin’!

I love the pirate flag on the collision repair shop! One must wonder about the connotation that the pirate image gives to the repair shop’s image–pirates, afterall, don’t have a stellar reputation.

The sky in this photo is fabulous. The color is just awesome and I love the way the eye tracks the bridge!

For those who may be confused about the design and construction of the Liberty Bridge; it is indeed a suspension bridge. The design is currently the only one of its kind in the nation, with its suspension cables supporting the entire bridge from just one side. It is a wonder to behold in person and it perfectly fits into the naturally beautiful urban park setting surrounding it. I love how the bridge creates a perfect place to view the falls and part of the downtown skyline in the background.

Tara, thank you. I was pleased with how the photo turned out.

Abe, the Liberty Bridge is a suspension bridge. In fact it is a curved pedestrian suspension bridge and serves as the largest tourist attraction in Greenville.

Ann, thank you. In addition to the light early mornings also offer bird songs as well.

Rich, thank you.

Justin, your narrative is great. I recommend all my readers stop by Justin’s new blog called Upstate SC Living

Lessie, thank you. I have figured out a method to carry my computer by the strap over my neck and shoulder. The leaves one hand to hold my camera case and the other to hold the camera ready for a photo (sounds sort of funny when I describe it).

CrazyCow, thanks for the tag. I have enjoyed reading the details those tagged have posted.

Jules, see Justin’s comments. He did a great jog of explaining the Liberty Bridge is actually a suspension bridge. I will have to add post script to let everyone know some details about the bridge.

Steve, yes I work and surprisingly I enjoy my work. I’m a computer consultant which is boring to most people however it is what I am best at so naturally I enjoy the work.

Lynette, thank you. The hot chocolate was what made the juggle especially challenging … Thanks for visiting my pirate flag post … As an explanation to other readers. I had left a comment at Lynette’s Portland daily photo blog and she was responding to the subject we were discussing which was unique objects seen on display at local businesses.

Helen, I agree. The sky and color are great but a nice additional touch is how the one’s eyes track the bridge. You can also see some of the color reflecting on the bridge rails.

Justin, thanks for the clarification and the link.
