Okay, I admit it. I have lens-envy … Today’s photo shows a photographer who appears to be ready to take advantage of any photo opportunity which presents itself. So I Goggled “lens envy” and this is what I found: (following is a quote from Andrew Garrett and his cure for lens envy post at digital-shot.com
Question: What fraction of photography contest winning photographs are taken with the normal lens?
Answer: Did you guess over 75%? Any guess less than 50% is a sign of being a lens-aholic ;-)

I know I suffered from lens envy last November at Homestead-Miami Speedway at the truck, Busch, and Nextel year-ending races. I had my 2004 CoolPix. Professionals had major equipment with them. Still and all, I had a blast, watching and taking photos, too.
I think he must have sore shoulders, be afraid of getting ripped off…and have a hard time getting the perfect action shot on the spur of the moment…because he had to change his lens. I probably have lens hate because I know I will never be able to afford all of those lens.
Lens envy?
I just go straight out and buy it…!
While it would be great to own lenses like this guy’s, I’ve even stopped carrying around my digital SLR in favor of my smaller Canon with the 12x zoom and image stabilization built in. I find that I take it with me far more often and take many, many more photos — and more that turn out well.
To me it would be a burden to walk around a crowded festival with all that gear, so I don’t really envy him at all. I do envy you, though, Denton, for having this cool web site and making so many acquaintances all over the world through one of your favorite hobbies.
I am with lavendarlady, he looks like his back hurts!
YES! I have lens envy… but not shoulder strap pain envy. And another thing… if you look at the lens on the camera in front, it seems like something is upside down, for the tripod mount on the lens is facing up, not down? But yes, I admit it, I want monster lenses so I can take pictures of birds a mile away!
Thanks for the great daily fix of Greenville, Denton.
My first thought was – shoulder ache, neck ache, back ache – but then I’m not in the realms of even owning a camera with a separate lens yet. Spent the weekend in Germany with friends who do – and yes, I’m getting tempted but honestly not sure I’d know how to use them properly. Great subject, Denton.
That’s quite the lens. Wow…
Planet Earth Daily Photo.
Yes, I have lens envy and camera envy… I bought a camera years ago and now it’s complete junk compared to what you can buy now. It’s sad but I can’t do anything about it right now! :) Love the photos! Thanks for linking up!
My neck and back hurt just looking at that lens! Do you know what he was shooting? He reminds me of the photogs I see at Titans games.
I have lens envy as well but I don’t think I could use that one with out a tripod. WOW!
Yes, you need a strong back to carry those for any length of time. And, it looks like he is carrying a third camera on his right shoulder. I can see a flash unit and a third strap.
The tripod mounts are upside down (and sideways) probably because it is easier to use the lenses handheld without a tripod. Personally, I’d have removed the mounts to lighten the load.
I wonder if he’s a member of the press. I agree — such cool equipment!
I saw this guy, myself, on Sunday. I could be wrong, but I believe he is, indeed, a photographer for the Greenville News…have seen him at a number of sporting events around town. I’d love to have that 70-200 f/2.8 L, myself…great lens for outdoor sporting events. Yes, I definitely have “lens envy.” Just see the “wish list” I have on my home page. :-)
Thanks for your comments … Although I envy those with expense lenses I like my light weight DSLR and it’s kit lens.
I too have lens envy after seeing this.
