While on a walk, this last weekend, I was intrigued by this unique use for wine bottles. Fortunately they had no guard dog because I took several photos of their yard.

Most unique, I’d say. I’m glad you were able to get the photos and picked one to share with us. While I’ve never seen anything like this, I did have a bottle tree when we lived in Mississippi. I put all sorts of bottles on it. You’ve seen them in South Carolina, I imagine. My brother built mine for me, out of a 4×4 post and some dowels.

That is a new use for bottles. I never saw anything like it. I have seen, however, whole buildings made from bottles. And another on television recently made from bales of straw. The three of them reminded me of the three little pigs story. Nice photograph, Denton.

That’s brilliant; looks good too. Recycling in action…

we do the same thing in eastern nc.(down east) but bury the bottles a little deeper and remove the labels. that really lets the bottles sparkle.

How interesting! You’ve now got me thinking…

I recall seeing yards with bottle edges in St. Petersburg, Florida during the 1940’s. It was a marvelous sight to see the sun shining through! Bare, grassless yards were swept clean with a broom creating a pattern of overlapping arcs (similar to Japanese gardens). The practice probably originated in Africa. Bottles of various colors sans labels were half buried, sometimes a row would be at a 45 angle. Colors were brown, blue, green and even red. It was pure art.

Lynette, I guess the most famous bottle tree was from the movie about Ray Charles.
Abe, hopefully there are no wolfs.
Rich, interesting thought about recycling. One of Greenville’s past projects was to create a small stretch of asphalt using recycled trash.
Lura, the sparkle sounds interesting. I will have to try an take a photo with the morning sun reflecting on these bottles.
Lessie, let us know if you create your own bottle edges. We would enjoy seeing a photo.
Judy, your description is beautiful. I especially like the idea of the sun shining through the bottles.

Thank you for the picture and your comments. This garden is a work in progress, because I have just finished the boarder. I need to work on the dirt and flowers. Mother Nature will work on the labels. Visit us next year. :)

Karen, your yard is beautiful, the trees are grand, and I especially like your putting green … I’ll be sure and stop by next year to take a follow-up photo.

If I drank wine I would know what to do with bottles. I think it’s a great idea!

That’s different. I think I like it, But, I worry about what would happen if the bottles broke — could result in little cut hands (kids) and noses (dogs and cats).
Karen said,
The bottles are filled with sand to deter breakage and you replace it if it does.
