October 8, 2007 - Ayers Leather, in business for 57 years

Ayers Leather, in business for 57 years, is located in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 10/8/2007. This weekend, I had a very enjoyable conversation with Deb Ayers Agnew … She invited me to take a few photos and share them with our readers … As the title states, Ayers Leather Shop has been in business for 57 years, which is a testament to the dedication of the Ayers family and the loyalty of Greenville shoppers … Also, I really like what Deb had to say and wanted to share it with you:

“I would love to honor my parents by showing our store as part of your wonderful website. Although Dad died two years ago, our family business is still a reflection of my parents remarkable insight into this area and it’s potential. How blessed I am to be a small part of this downtown!”

Following are a few thumbnails showing the inside of the store. Click on them for larger images.A little bit of everything at Ayers Leather in downtown Greenville, SC. Great photos and a great story, too, Denton. Are you learning more about Greenville because you’re out and about, taking photos for your blog?

Dad - A Christmas wish list item. I really really like the USC flag in one of the store pics.

First, thanks for taking the time to visit my Japanese website. And second, thanks for the comments there.

I like this testament to Ayers Leather Shop. I love the smell of fresh leather before it is made into all the things leather is made into. There is something about leather that reminds me of my youth and trips to Abe Bloom’s shoe shop. The sound of the belts on machines, going round and round, and the smell of leather, rubber cement and the hammer knocking nails from Abe’s mouth into the shoe leather soles. What memories a post evokes.

Lynette, your right. Posting a photo daily brings me in contact with some wonderful people many of which I learn a lot from. Especially with my photo blog is focused on a small downtown area.

Lorena, it’s not even Thanksgiving yet and you are talking about Christmas. However, I did note the USC flag and made sure it was in a photo.

Abe, sometimes post will trigger memories for me which I never expect. I enjoy surfing the City Daily Photo blog community and wish I had more time to do it … Your expansion in to books and specialized blogs is very impressive.

What a great store…aren’t family businesses great…especially when they remember the values on which they were founded. Great story.

My mother, Deb Ayers Agnew, sent me the link to your blog. It was so nice to see pictures of my home–Ayers Leather Shop. I now live in Virginia, so little pieces of home, like in your pictures make my day. I enjoyed looking at your other photos on the site and will be sure to check back in frequently. Thanks!
