Scooters are becoming more popular in downtown Greenville. The sticker says it is sold by Vespa of Greenville. The model is GT-200 and the sale price is $4,995. Personally, I like the scooters much better than the Harleys or the Japanese bikes … You think it is okay for someone over 50 to buy a scooter?

I think its more then OK Denton. Vespas /Scooters are for everyone…especially for young guys like you!
Galley said,
Vespas are a great alternative to autos; just stay away from moped “DUI Mobiles”.

‘course it’s ok. Vespas are for all ages… As long as you can ride it carefully and enjoy it :-)

Well, personally I would prefer my two feet :-) But, I think they are cool for anyone who would enjoy them …as long as, like Rich says they drive carefully.

I think a scooter would be great for mom! Something colorful.

Scotters are perfect transportation. Buy a good helmet!

I wish I could ride a scooter to work!!! There are some (closer to $10k) that are hwy worthy, but … I’m chicken. My friends say I’d be nuts to go on 85 on a scooter, but they are so cute! Careful though — I have heard of at least two being stolen!

My custom chopper will put a harley to shame and I’m 66. If I ever become too feeble to ride that I will defiantly look for an alternative such as a Vespa or motorized wheel chair. So to answer the question “am I too old to ride a Vespa” NO….Would it be crazy to take a Vespa on 85 YES. Live on the wild side, but be safe doing it…. :-)

Zsolt, my wife thinks we should buy segways instead. After reflection I think we will buy bicycles.
Galley, I have noticed a lot of mopes as well. The scooter look more substantial.
Rich, good advice. Especially the “enjoy it” part.
Ann, we will most likely stay with our feet as well. However, we are down to one car now and I have been considering alternatives for a second vehicle.
Lorena Tinsley, a yellow one for sure.
Kate, helmets are popular here on bicycles as well. Although on the large motorcycles there is a movement to fight a mandatory helmet law.
Lessie, I think coach may be right. I don’t think a scooter, even a large one belongs on I85. Consider a Honda Goldwing.
Coach, describe your chopper. I’ll keep an eye out for it and post a photo if I’m lucky … In my younger years I rode a lot of dirt bike. As I have aged I tend to not appreciate the noise a Harley makes. However, this weekend I saw what appeared to be a groom and his buddies arrive on their Harleys with all of the them in tuxes. I thought that was pretty cool.

Hey Denton, I work with Brian at Downtown Pres and look at your sight often! My dad just gave my mom a bright red Vespa for their 27th Anniversary. They both love it! They live in Dallas, TX, but ever since he gave it to her, its really made me want one for riding around Downtown Greenville. It would be a blast!

Go with the bicycles. You would get the exercise that makes the Dr happy and enjoy the scenery too!

Hey Denton …. Believe it or not…..as annoying as the sound/noise of a Harley is, there is a safety issue. Auto drivers tend to not see a motorcycle/Vespa/Mophead. If we can’t get their attention in other ways, we make a little noise. I wish I could switch it to silent running downtown. I do stay off the throttle and park quickly. Picture….not sure you want an Old Geezer on his candy red chopper unless he is dressed up as Santa Clause.

Vespa are the best!
Start to listen to some Mod music like The Odd Numbers from San Jose’, CA, maybe buy a parkas, and then the town is yours!
