September 15, 2007 - A rainy night in downtown Greenville

A rainy night in downtown Greenville, SC. This photo was taken by Denton Harryman and posted at GreenvilleDailyPhoto.com on 9/15/2007. The story behind this photo: Last night Connie had an appointment in Atlanta. I was one my own. Instead of going out I unpacked boxes recently shipped from my mother’s house. It was rainy and I was focused on the task of unpacking. Afterwards I realized that I did not have a photo to post and that I had not eaten supper. So I walk one block, picked up a grinder from Bellacino’s, and snapped today’s photo. It had just stopped raining and the photo was taken handheld. I love my camera and the convenience of downtown Greenville … This extra photo shows some of what was unpacked.

Denton, that’s lovely. I shall echo your sentiments, sort of. I love my camera and the convenience of downtown Portland. I have to tell you though, that my Nikon D50 malfunctioned Monday morning and is off to the camera hospital. My little ol’ CoolPix is standing in, so we’ll see how that goes. I imagine you’ll thoroughly understand me when I say I believe I’d go some degree of beserk if I couldn’t take at least one photo every single day. The CoolPix (from 2004) has served me well in the past, so I’m maintaining a positive attitude. About what you unpacked, is some of that amber glass coin class? Just curious. Thanks.

great photo Denton. I have eaten at Bellacino’s a few times including this past Monday when in Greenville. I love the grinders. I really like the glass dishware. I have seen it in other colors.
Well, gotta go finish getting ready so i can be on the road by 8am headed to Greenville for the weekend to enjoy the Art in the Park.

Your mom and you sister gave you one of those many-days-of-birthday presents, didn’t they, helping you lead up to your belated celebration!

We are thrilled that the glass arrived! It is Fenton ware coin pattern I think. You can always have fond rememberances of Mother when you look at it.

Great photo. I like the reflections off the road!

Thanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog. To answer your question on the King’s Landing Wharf: OPP stands for Ontario Provincial Police (and the sign refers to the marine unit of the OPP).

Lynette, thank you. You have a very good eye. The glassware is by Fenton and is their coin pattern.

Ann, I hope you enjoy Art in the Park. It should be a great weekend.

LavenderLady (Norma), the risky part way my transporting the glass to UPS. Once they packed it I felt sure it would be safe.

Annie, we will celebrate in a couple of weeks.

Leonda, fond memories. Later I will have to create a display of Mother’s glass ware on top of our cabinets with back lighting has you have done with Grandmother’s glass ware.

NorthBayPhoto, thank you. I was pleased with the reflections. Not bad for a last minute photo.

Hello Denton,

Am I having a blond moment, what is a grinder?

Lizzy, I had the same question when I first saw Bellacino advertise “grinders”. It turns out this is a common term in the north east. There is even a widipedia page about grinder sandwiches. Basically they are Submarine sandwiches.

Wow! If that’s what downtown looks like in September, I can’t wait to see what it will look like at Christmas! ;-)
