I was purchasing a takeout order from The Orient on Main and noticed the unusual effect shown in this photo … The door is a side entrance to the Sushi Murasaki, a very popular restaurant in downtown Greenville … What looks like pants hanging from the top is actually a half length curtain … We will have to guess what those in the scene were discussing.

Great photo.
The half-curtain is called “noren” in Japanese. The noren usually has the restaurant’s name and type of food served (in this case, sushi). Traditionally, the noren hang over the front entrance to the restaurant, and the restaurant is open when the noren is out and closed when the noren has been taken in.
This is a fun restaurant.
Keep the great photos coming!

It seems that blogging has alerted all of us to some great scenes and then good informataion as an offshoot. I learned something about Japanese restaurants while enjoying your photo. The woman’s apparel and stance is interesting. Very long legs!!

She does have long legs covered in red. What does that mean? When I was a boy there was a lot of significance in “red” light bulbs.
I think this is a nice photograph and that most people would simply pass by and never give the scene a second thought.

There is also a Sushi Murasaki at Cherrydale right by the movie theater…it is VERY good also. I actually like it better then the one downtown on Main Street - Bigger.

Super shot! Context is everything, without your description of this photo taking place inside a restaurant, one could come up with all sorts of ideas and descriptions of what is occuring. Wonderful photograph!
Thanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog. As for the 2 steering wheels on the bike, I too wondered how it would work, until I saw them up close.

mSwofford, thank you for the complement and the information.
Kate, yes I learned from today’s post as well … Very long legs.
Abraham, don’t let your imagination get you into trouble … Yes, as the result of post a photo daily I’m quicker to notice a photo opportunity. As are all the City Daily Photo bloggers.
Jazzlover, since we moved downtown our exposure to the rest of Greenville has diminished. I really appreciate the tip.
NorthBayPhoto, thank you. Yes the photo opens us all sorts of questions. As it turns out the two people in the scene were discussing their work schedules.
