July 25, 2007 - The Lazy Goat restaurant

The Lazy Goat restaurant on River Walk in downtown Greenville, SC We ate at The Lazy Goat restaurant recently and were very pleased with the experience. I say experience because that is as important as the food … The food is great. In addition to pizza as shown in this photo they server many Mediterranean dishes … The experience is that of a causal upscale restaurant which encourages conversation, fun, and even song. For local readers (each table has one blue chair) be sure and ask what your obligations are if you sit in the blue chair.

I like the open plan set-up here. All very immaculate… But the name of the place is the best bit :)

Yes I love the name too. But I want to know what happens if you sit on the blue chair!

I agree with Jilly - PLEASE tell us what happens in the blue chair?? The mind boggles!!

I’ll be waiting to hear about the blue chair!! Free drinks perhaps?

the person who sits on the blue chair pays for the meal? ;-)

The person that sits in the blue chairs has to keep the conversation going at the table. They are more or less the hostess. The food is awesome!

The tiles certainly are blue! It looks like a good place to eat without exorbitant prices–always a treat. You have quite a list of blogs for which you provide technical assistance!!

The answer is as Jazzlover stated “The person that sits in the blue chairs has to keep the conversation going at the table”. The instructions state that the person in the blue chair should even consider leading the table in a song to keep everyone entertained and involved.

Rich, yes the name is a winner.

Jilly and Jules, I’m sure you would be asked to sit in the blue chair.

Neva, maybe more like freely drinking.

Keropokman, that would be no fun.

Jazzlover, thanks for sharing the explanation. And you are right. The food is very good.

Kate, yes I have a lengthy list. I’m pleased to help. I especially like the international flavor of the list.

The Lazy Goat is one of the poshest places in town. Not only is the food a visit to the coast of the Mediterranean, but the views on the terrace are the best in town. You can hang out as long as you like, eat, drink and listen to either the water fountains or the bands playing music around the Peace Center. The wait staff is on the ball, the bartenders great looking………and as in typical Soby’s style, one that will be the place to be seen around town. This restaurant should be in a big city like Chicago!

Try hanging around the goat outside on the patio on a Thursday night. It is a great place to listen to the bands from across the river and be able to enjoy some great food. My favorites were the lamb and also the tomato pizza………..the good looking bartender is upstairs…but did not see the assistant manager that ya’ll were talking about!…..if you are looking for exceptional food…….I also went to Sobys and enjoyed their patio last weekend, and the new menu was wonderful. There is no reason to go to Charleston any more for the restaurants and night life. There is plenty to do here……….

My husband and I recently ate there and were not impressed. The pizza crust had little flavor (desperately in need of salt at least) and the baba ghanouj was the worst we have had anywhere. The view is nice but wasn’t enough to bring us back.

Hmm, sorry you had a bad experience. We have been back several times and enjoyed each visit. The seasoning is definitely mediterranean and as such different from what most of us from South Carolina normally eat … Thanks for your post. It adds some additional information for our readers to consider … PS: I think the email address you entered was humorous … So everyone can enjoy the joke the email address entered was nota@chanceinxxxx.com
