Earlier this week I posted this photo of a rock staircase at the Cancer Survivor’s Park in downtown Greenville. Several readers asked where the staircase leads … today’s photo shows the tomb like structure to which it leads. I do not know the history behind this structure and I hope a local reader will post a comment with information … Extra photos have been shared showing different perspectives and the path you see after climbing up the staircase. PS: A loyal reader, Rock, found the following information about the stone building in this photo. Rock said that he “asked a Greenville historian that writes columns for the Greenville News about the building. She said that it wasn’t slave building at all… that all slaves were sold in front of the court house on Main St the first Monday of every month which was considered sales days. She was told, but really not sure, that it was manmade (note the Gothic stone arch) built after Furman came to Greenville to shelter the water source for the university.”
