Have you every had a photo you really wanted to save. Today’s photo is a perfect example. The focus was off yet I really like this photo. To me the photo has youth, joy, attitude, and most of all love of photography. So I played around with PhotoShop filters. Please let me know which filter you like. The large photo uses a Sumi-e filter. The thumbnails use: Glowing Edges, Spherize, Tile, & Colored Pencil.

I like the “glowing edges” version.
on s’amuse bien avec tous les filtres de photoshop, moi je prefere un logiciel français : photofiltre
one has fun with all the filters of photoshop, me I prefer a French software: photofiltre
I like the Sumi-e filter. Really interesting effect. Also, great blog.
If you are using Photoshop CS3—there is one I use called Plastic Wrap that makes a nice treatment. I like most of your samples though and would settle for them as well.
I am waiting on a new Canon White IS lens to get here. Am anxious to see how it stacks up against what I already have. The hard part to swallow is that it cost a lot more than my camera.
Thank you for visiting my blog. I appreciate your comments too.
I like the large photo best — you’re right, the pic has a lot of energy and zest.
I really like the Sumi-e and the tile photo. I like the others also just prefer these 2! I agree with your reasons for liking this photo. Nice shot!
I like sumi-e and tile… the others are just ok.
Dedzed, I agree. The “glowing edges” was my second choice. In fact I think that photo would look sharp cropped a little closer.
Olivier, I played around a little with Photofiltre when helping Alice from Arradon (France) DP with her collage. I found Photofiltre to be straight forward and simple to use.
KD, thank you. I glad you enjoy our blog. Keep visiting and if you know anyone who would like to license some of our images please let us know. We have had a lot of luck licensing images for advertising, magazine articles, and quality of life broachers.
Abraham, I tried several filters one of which was the Plastic Wrap. I have to be careful when I start playing with PhotoShop because before I know it my evening is gone and I have not commented on other Daily Photo blogs … I’m envious of your White IS Lens. Be sure and share some photos showing how well it does.
Lessie, I think the camera was new to photographer. I think this because she took tons of photos including the back of her hand. Of course others may say the same of about me.
Helen, I was glad the filters helped save this photo. The subject was full of excitement about her camera. I wish I had taken several photos and could have presented an unfiltered version. Although I like a filtered photo I prefer the unfiltered presentation.
Katja, I’m pleased you agree with my filter choice.
I was interested in seeing how the tile made the picture seem to become more well-focused. And, of course, I like the more focused look. I also liked the effect of the colored pencil one.
It’s fun to play around with photos, isn’t it. I’d really like to get and learn photoshop so I could do the same.
the 3rd and 4th thumnails are my fave. Though the 4th one i’ll probably make the effect less intense. Under the same situation, I’d probably use soft glow or soften to distract from the flaw of blurry photos :)
really strange…i actually submitted a comment to this one yesterday but its not here.
my vote was: i like the large one, and the glowing edges one which give it an artsy look.
I rather like the Glowing Edges, myself.
Denton: I was downtown taking photos last night of the usual suspects (Liberty Bridge, River Place, Court Square) and I had no less than three people stop and ask me if I was Greenville Daily Photos. I consider that a very high compliment and a testament to how far-reaching your site is in our community. Keep up the great work! :-)
Annie, yes I found the effect of the tile filter interesting as well. The tile lines take the eye away from the focus issue … Note that PhotoShop elements is available for a very reasonable price. I use it for my resizing and to place the copy right on my photos.
Kris, good idea. I’ll try it.
Ann, sorry your comment was lost.
RestedTraveler, we are pleased with the success of Greenville Daily Photo. The Google ranking helps a lot. That and having so many photo opportunities in downtown Greenville.
I’m sorry but generally (except some few countable events) I don’t like to apply filters. I love to improve some effects, of course, to make better contrast or to remedy to some mistake done when I took the photo but not to apply filters. By the way, the larger one, is that one more impressive :-)
