The trees shown in this photo line Main Street in Greenville. In my opinion they are one of the treasures of Greenville. All of these trees were planted around 1960 as part of a downtown redevelopment which included “narrowed the street’s four lanes to two and installed free, angled parking, trees, and decorative light fixtures, as well as created parks and plazas throughout downtown”. I suppose that would be a nice street to park on and walk on in the shade of the broiling summer sun. Sendai-shi, Japan did that after World War II and fire bombing raids destroyed everything. They planted their streets with beautiful trees. I was there in 1953 and they were no larger than my thumb and staked up. Today, the city is ultra modern and the green trees makes it called “The City Of Trees.” It is quite beautiful.

Denton, the beautiful landscaping they have done downtown and along the river and Falls Park is a big reason I love Greenville so much.
