On my walk to work Friday I noticed this family of ducklings. After taking several photos I was must pleased this photo showing the wake these little guys created.

It is a nice photograph and caused me to remember something similar. When I was able to carry 50 pounds of corn in a sack on my shoulder, in the winter, I used to buy a sack of cracked corn and carry it to the park to feed the ducks and geese who lived there. I noticed this mother mallard duck crossing a small pond one day with four baby ducks. The next day there were three and the next day there were two and the last day the mother was along. The answer is: snapping turtles live there too and eat the baby ducks.
I posted information about codes that might interest you.

Is this the same river as the duck picture I bought? Home on Monday. I can’t wait!

Kalyan, thank you.
Abraham, I am sure there are natural preditors in the Reedy River as well. However, I have not seen any snapping turtles lately.
Lavender Lady (Norma), yes the same river just a different season.

When I was a child, my grandmother who had a little farm (two chicken, a cow and a goat…) often gave me a baby duck to bring back home. In one or two days, he was following me everywhere! It’s one of my best memories of my childhood…So thank you for this shot which reminds me all these Saturnin (the firstname I gave them).

I deny it, but my biological clock must ticking. These shots brought tears to my eyes. So sweet.
