February 17, 2007 - Earle Street Historic Preservation Area

A speed bump in the Earle Street Historic Preservation Area in Greenville, SC Last weekend during a walk, in the Earle Street Historic Preservation Area, I took this photo of a speed hump warning sign. The difference between a speed hump and a speed bump is the width not the height. They are both about one foot high while the bump is one foot wide the hump is 6 feet wide. The bumps are most common and are a real pain in the you know what. While the speed humps slow traffic down but don’t seem as jarring to me.

Yes, I too prefer the speed hump. It doesn’t jar my insides quite as violently!

Love your picture, Denton. The shadows are so nice. I don’t think we have the “humps” up here in Guelph…just “bumps”.

At one time they used to be called “sleeping policemen”.
