January 15, 2007 - Duck in flight over the low water dam

Duck in flight over the low water dam in downtown Greenville, SC

I went looking for a photo to show you the light reflecting off the low water dam in downtown Greenville. What I came up with was this duck lunching himself off the dam. Note the I used PhotoShop to sharpen the edges. I have also included a link to the original photo.

Terrific timing! Love the water, too. (Somehow knowing that you have a big sister in the blog world humanizes the Head Prefect of this School of Bloggers. We do appreciate everything you do for all of us, Denton.)

Meg, yes I am human. Although when my sister, Norma from Sequim WA Daily Photo, asked how to join I went to great lengths to explain the commitment. I guess that does make me sound a little like a “Head Prefect”. Thanks for your kind comments. I am pleased to be one of those who assist the daily photo community which Eric (from Paris Daily Photo) started.

alice-d56, thank you. It is not often however when possible I try to include action photos.

Olivier, thank you. The duck’s shadow was an unplanned bonus.

Priceless timing! And did you notice that the duck’s shadow looks a lot like the Playboy symbol? Lol..

(btw Denton, I cannot access dailyphotoblog.com for a few days now - is something wrong?)

Isabella, very funny. No I had not noticed the shadow looking like the Playboy symbol. I’m laughing a second time typing my response to your comment.

As for DailyPhotoBlog.com yes it is down. Eric sent and email to the Daily Photo mailing list saying the site was down for a couple of days for repairs. I will forward his email to you.

So many things make this photo fab. I love the original too. Thanks to Oliver for pointing out the duck’s shadow.

It’s a tough call Denton, but I think my preference is the original too. Both are superb!
Nice to know your sister is part of this DP family! I convinced my sister to join as well (Quito).
It would be interesting to find others who have relatives participating in this group!

I love them both! I wish I had been there, but surely I would have just taken the photo with my eyes and forgotten to snap the shutter as i dropped my chin. The fact there are two birds in the photo is great…it is almost like the second one is waiting his turn!

What a stunning shot ! I appreciate the shadow and the V shape this duck creates during its flight.

this is a wonderful shot! I also prefer the original, and love that you got that shadow as well as the duck that appears to be waiting for his/her turn to fly.

Great photo! I love how you altered it! And to learn that Lavendar Lady is your sister… well, I can see that art runs in the family. What are you doing on opposite coasts? Makes visiting a little hard.
