January 3, 2007 - Triune Mercy Center supports the homeless

Triune Mercy Center supports the homeless in Greenville, SC On New Year’s day we went to see the movie call “In Pursuit of Happyness”. The movie is a true story in which Will Smith plays a homeless single father which steadfastly refuses to give up and pursues a dream until he succeeds. The movie has some very positive things to say about the organizations which provide services to the homeless. As a result, today I am sharing a photo of Triune Mercy Center which provides services to the homeless in Greenville.

In the past there have been some very powerful post, from the daily photo family, on the subject of homeless around the world. Some of those post include Jing from Shanghai, Carlos from Barcelona, Lisi from Hongkong, Macky from Toyko.

l’eglise est superbe, et la lumiere magnifique, avec en cadeau sa majesté la lune.

the church is superb, and the splendid light, with in gift its majesty the moon.

sounds like a ‘must see’ film. And your photo is wonderful with the moon and contrasting colors!

the whole building is for the services? or its a church and some part of it are for services? to me it seems to be like a large institution

Keropok Man, no I doubt the movie was showing at the facility.

Olivier, thank you. The light was good but I wish I had taken the photo 30 minutes earlier.

Sophie Andersen, it was a good movie and certainly had an impact on the type of photos I took and posted the last two days. Even though the story is true I have some question if the example is rare and may give the wrong impression about what it takes to overcome the challenge the homeless face.

Candice & Megan, thanks for commenting and happy new year.

Zsolt72, my understanding is the building on the left is dedicated to services for the homeless while the building on the right is dedicated to church functions.

Note: As a father I would like to brag on the fact that my youngest daughter did volunteer work here during her high school years.

I found those photos you linked very difficult to view so I am glad that you followed with a building which provides some hope. Volunteering is very important and your daughter did well!
