November 22, 2006 - Larkin’s on the River

A sign for Larkin's on the River in Greenville, SC Walking home from work yesterday I noticed the sign shown in this photo was missing. My mind did not dwell on why the sign might be missing. Instead, my first thought was that I have a photo of the sign in my archives. Hope you enjoy the photo. If you live in Greenville stop in to enjoy a meal and ask where the sign went.

Yes, the composition is wonderful. I hope the restaurant is not leaving. Maybe a new sign going up?

Obviously a restaurant for geriatrics, serving aged steaks and old wine. Perhaps the menu just gave up the ghost and died?

Jing, thank you. I upgraded recently to a DSLR camera and I think my photos show a difference. Also, there is less haze during Fall as a result the blue sky backgrounds are more vivid.

Ruth, there is no way this restaurant is going out of business. They are way to good and way to popular. No I suspect it has to do with where the sign is placed. The sign was on the side wall of a neighboring business. My guess is the cost to place the sign there went up more than the restaurant felt it was worth.

Daphne, I would agree that this restaurant is for an older crowd. Mainly because the food is so good they can charge prices which only those who have invested wisely over they years can afford.

I think I’d like to eat there, sign or no sign. The lamps can light the way!

I wonder if they’ll still be serving aged steaks and old wine when their new sign is installed.

Of course, maybe they want to slow down the number of customers and they’ve decided not to put up a new sign.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Daphne.
