October 8, 2006 - Allen Temple A.M.E. Church

Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Greenville, SC About a week ago I went for an evening walk and took this twilight photo of the Allen Temple A.M.E. Church which has been a service to the community since 1875. Recently About a year ago the A.M.E. was in the news because Greenville’s new baseball stadium was built across the street raising several issues. Since completion it appears the staidum and church co-exists successfully. Click here to see how close the stadium is to the church.

Dear Daily Photo blogger. I’m sorry for the generic message, but I wanted to get this to as many of you as possible.

I have set up “The Daily Photo Spot” on Fanpop. If you go there, you can enter your specific City Daily Photo blog (Add link). Paris, London and Dubai are already there, so it would be great to see all of you DP Bloggers listed.

While you are there, vote for the others!

a lovely structure and very well maintained!
if you didnt write, i would have guessed this is a new-built

…isnt it too late to raise issues, as the stadium seems to me already complete?

I guess that they have a right to be provoked. Nothing’s sacred anymore, or so it seems.

That IS close. And are there ball games on Sundays? Will this cause a problem with traffic? I am always astonished at the decisions that get made regarding new buildings next to historical locations.

The photo is lovely, taken at twilight as you did.

I should clarify. The issues raised were a year ago when the stadium was built. Since then it appears the stadium and church co-exists successfully.

My Allen Temple AME Church, Atlanta, Georgia was dismantled in order to build the Atlanta Stadium. The stadium came in 1961 and we can only remember where our dear church used to be. My church had stood since on that spot since 1865. Now it would be called a national historical site. I’m glad that this one survived. We relocated the congregation to the west side of town and the church survived but the flavor has changed. I wished the church remained because the neighborhood where the church once stood is coming back with new houses.
