September 5, 2006 - Playing in the fountain at River Place

« day before | today | day after » Playing in the fountain at River Place in Greenville, SC Saturday evening I enjoyed a stroll down River Walk. I had not realized that the fountain at River Place includes a play area. I understand when the computer and water spouts are synchronized they will mimic a moving train complete with music. Notice the train tracks and the tunnel. The intent is to invoke a memory of the swamp rabbit train which crossed the Reedy River at this point many years ago.

i can’t help looking at this picture and scream in my mind; don’t run, those tiles are slippery and than bang, one of them falls flat on the back of his head.
Can you tell all 3 of my kids are taking swimming lessons?

Kris, thanks. I was pleased with the photo but mainly I enjoyed watching the kids enjoy the fountain.

Tanty, yes she is cute and the mothers smile is heart warming as well.

Dutchie, to easy your concerns as little I should let you know that the play area has a rubber surface to help prevent slips and falls. Also, there are signs asking that running not occur.

Anne, thanks.

Lisi, I am very pleased with my new camera. I have to get comfortable with the idea of carrying it around though. In the past I have always carried a small camera which fit in my pocket. Now I look like the paparazzi. I jokingly told my wife I planned to become a war photo journalist. She did not think I was funny.

That’s a very cute capture there. I’m still not sure I’ve moved beyond my mixed-feelings over the painted-on tracks though. And I’m surprised at how restrictive the “Pool Rules” posted in the window next to the fountain are. Overall, it’s an amazing fountain though, and something we in Greenville should be very proud of.

Norma, I’m going to give it a try. I’ll share the results.

Helen, I was having fun taking the photo.

RT, personally I think River Walk along with the fountain will be a big success partly because there is a natural flow from Falls Park.
