August 22, 2006 - Rock Quarry Garden

« day before | today | day after » Rock Quarry Garden in Greenville, SC Sunday I took a very pleasant walk to Rock Quarry Garden. If you have not been to the garden I highly recommend a visit. The garden is next to Cleveland park at 200 McDaniel. The Greater Greenville website has a page about public gardens which is worth a look.

Jessica, I had driven by the Rock Quarry Garden for years but it is so much better when you stop and take a stroll.

Anne, no the man in the photo is not me. However, I have a remote for my camera so I may try a similar photo with me in it.

One of these days you and I are going to run into each other. I was there Sunday too, just briefly. My kids and I had ridden our bikes down to the zoo, then stopped off there but there was a wedding at the time so we headed over to Falls Park. There’s a lot of great wildlife there for it to be so small. The bluegill at the bottom of the falls get bigger every time I’m there. There are huge bullfrogs in the pond, along with turtles, hummingbirds, robins, cardinals, etc. My kids and I once watched a copperhead swim across with a tadpole in its mouth. We then walked over and watched it eat. Pretty fascinating to watch in the wild, assuming snakes don’t creep you out.

What a beautiful place. And if there are lots of critters to watch, I’d be there a lot.

Eric, I was pleased with how this photo turned out. Thanks for all the detail about the wildlife.
