August 8, 2006 - Greenville celebrates 175 years of service

« day before | today | day after » Greenville, SC celebrates 175 years of service. Greenville is celebrating 175 years of service. The sign says “175 years city service 1831 - 2006″. The building behind the sign is the Bookend condos. As you can see the Bookends actually are bookends for a parking garage.

By 175 years of service you mean your city is celebrating 175 years since it’s been founded right? Your city is fairly old, compared to America as a whole…

I too got confused?! Is the city celebrating 175 years?

Anne and Rudy, I agree that the wording is confusing. However, you are correct this means that Greenville has been in existance and providing services as a city for 175 years. Just 4 hours South and East of Greenville is Charleston SC which incorporated in 1670 making it 336 years old.
