Restoration on South Main

Almost every old building on South Main is being restored. Several have available signs on them while the restoration is underway. This building housed an old seafood store and was where I took a photo of an old seafood sign. The photo was of OOD in seafood. The planner have wisely extended the same practices successfully used before where the street is limited to two lanes of traffic, there is angle parking, trees are planted, and wide sidewalks are provided.ÂŠÂŠÂŠ

Rubber duck derby in Greenville, SC held 5/27/2006

We had a great time at the Reedy River Rubber Duck Derby held this last Saturday. It was a big success with a lot of money made for local charities. There was a large crowd on hand cheering the ducks as they raced down the reedy and over the falls. On a personal note, it was a hot day so Connie and I enjoyed the race with our feet in the water.Â

Red Cross / Red Cresent

Given the earthquake and lose of life in Indonesia I felt it appropriate to highlight the Red Cross today. The photo shows a disaster response vehicle ready to respond to disasters in Greenville as they are ready to respond world wide. The Red Cross web page has additional detail on their response to the Earthquake in Indonesia and what you can do to help. The closest daily photo blog is Jakarta which is 249 miles from where the earthquake hit.ÂŠÂ

The Stone Landbridge

While on a walk in Falls Park yesterday I stopped by “The Stone Landbridge” and took this photo. A plaque says it was donated by The F.W. Symmes Foundation. I found the name interesting so I Googled “Stone Landbridge” and did not receive any hits. Then I looked up landbridge in the dictionary any this certainly meets the definition and it is stone. However I thought there might be more to the meaning given I have never heard the term used before. Do any of our local readers have an explanation of why the name was chosen?
