Route 66 horse

no comments

This photo does not relate or tie to Greenville. The reason is that I was on a trip to Amarillo Texas the last two days. in fact I just arrived from the airport and am late in posting. So please indulge today’s post as a non-Greenville photo. Also, Rob from Stuttgart Germany specifically ask for a post from Amarillo. The photo is of the route 66 horse in downtown Amarillo Texas. The black strip represents the highway. Click on the photo for a larger view.

FEMA trailers

FEMA trailers on Interstate 40. Fortunately they were not headed to Greenville. However the link to Greenville is the December ice storm and the articles in the Greenville News reporting that FEMA money is paying for 75% of the cleanup.

Blogging, football, and coffee

no comments

What do blogging, football, and coffee have in common? This photo tells the story. The photo was taken at Port City Java at 11 South Main Street in Greenville. The photo was taken on January 22nd when the NFL football playoffs were underway. Note that I did not post the photo on the 22nd. However at present I am on a road trip to Texas and had to post an old photo. The common thread is coffee in that I am posting from a wi-fi link at Starbucks in Amarillo Texas. So I guess blogging and coffee do have a lot in common.

Piazza Bergamo (continued)

This photo was taken a few nights ago when I found several photo opportunities enhanced by the fog. Click here to see another foggy night photo. Also, click here to see another view of Piazza Bergamo. Click here to see a photo posted by Rob in Stuttgart, Germany. The photo is of the Rathaus/City Hall plaza at dusk. Notice the similarities in the patterns used in the tile. See Rob’s comments below and visit his website at Life in Stuttgart.

Piazza Bergamo

I found the stones in this photo interesting. To take the photo I had to sit on the ground and use my tripod lowest level. Note that the building on left of the photo is a great restaurant called Sassafras Southern Bistro. I will work at finding their web address and update this post when I do. In the mean time their phone number is (864) 235-5670. Click here to see a Google map showing their location. In the comments on this post, Anne asked if the stones in the pavement are really green? So I have posted the photo on the left taken during the day. In daylight the stones are red and a little blue. Yet in the photo taken at night, with a very slow shutter speed and fog in the air, the stones appear green. Maybe another photographer can explain the effect. I will do some reading and if I come up with an answer it will be posted. Also, note the greenish tint on this other foggy night photo.

Blue sky

no comments

This photo was taken primarily to show blue sky. Many of my photos posted this time of year are taken at night as a result I thought a blue sky photo would be nice. The old family court building is interesting as well. It is across the street from the building shown in yesterday’s photo. In yesterday’s post I noted that the reflection of the old family court house could be seen. Note that the Greater Greenville website states “family court building renovation – This historic building has been renovated for new office and residential space”. Click here for additional detail.

The Liberty Building

A carving on the front of the Liberty Building says “Chamber of Commerce Bvilding erected MCMXXIV”. The word building includes a V instead of U. Does anyone have an explanation of why? I found 10,900 hits on Google for “bvilding” however I have not found a good explanation yet. For fun I have included a link to a Roman Numerial calculator created by Edward Hobbs. These photos are of the Liberty Building at 135 South Main Street. Notice the reflection of the old family court house which is across the street. Please note that Rome has been added in the list of city photo blogs referenced on this site. Click on the link and leave Joe a comment. Bloggers need encouragement. His January 26th photo is interesting in that it shows a contrast of old and new. I plan to ask if he knows any photo blogs in Bergamo Italy which is Greenville’s “sister city”.
